IMPROVEMENT IN BARN-DOOR HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,590, dated July 2, 1872.
, SPEoIEIcA'rIoN. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. GAULDWELL, of Watkins, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Sliding Doors; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the acconipanying drawing and to the letters of reference .marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the employment of a feather 'for the purpose of clearing the groove in the wheel, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its constructionand operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 2 a side view of my'invention.
The hanger consists of two cast pieces A and B, constructed substantially in the manner shown in the drawing. To either one of these pieces is cast what I call a tapered horn, G, to form the bearing upon which the wheel D is to revolve. Through the horn C is cast a wrought-iron pin, a, and a similar pin, 11, is east through the end of either part A and B, so that the two parts may be secured together by nuts, as shown in Fig. 1. Through the hub of the wheel D is a tapered hole for the passage of the tapered horn 0, and the circumference of the wheel is grooved, as shown, for the guide-bar or rail applied to the edge of the door or to the frame. Between the ends of the parts A and B, and upon the pin b, is secured a projection or feather, d, which fits in the groove on the circumference of the Wheel D, for the purpose of cleaning said groove of the dust that may settle in the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I In a sliding or barn-door hanger the projection or feather 01, in combination with the cast parts A and B and grooved wheel D,substantially as described and shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. OAULDWELL.
