GREGORY M. MULLEN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
PU LLEY-BLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,213, dated August 18, 1896.
Application filed May 29, 1896. Serial No. 593,561. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GREGORY M. MULLEN, of Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pu1ley-Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in pulleyblocks, and especially in the ball-bearin g construction thereof; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a cross-section of a double block provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a detail View of the blockframe, the cap-plates, pulleys, and bolts being removed; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of one of the pulleys.
The block shown in Fig. 1 has a framing comprising the main portion A and cap-plates B B. The main portion A has a central plate A, a head-plate A having a loop or eye a and a foot-plate A such plates A and A bein g integral with and united at their middles to the central plate A.
The cap-plates B B are secured by screws 19, as shown, or otherwise, and are provided centrally with openings forming seats for the outer ends of the shafts O C. These shafts are fixed with respect to the central plate and are preferably integral therewith.
The pulleys E are provided with the central openings e, made at their smallest points larger than the shafts C, so they will not bind or bear against the same. At the opposite ends of said opening e I provide an annular groove or rabbet F, the balls fitting in said rabbets and projecting sufficiently to bear against the shaft and against the frame.
The central shaft, fixed at one end to the plate of the main frame and fitting at its other end in a seat in the cap-plate, and the loose fitting of the balls in the rabbets of the pulleys forms a simple compact construction, in which the balls can be readily applied and renewed and which will be efficient in use. Between the rabbets F a central rib extends inward and serves to hold the balls in the opposite rabbets in contact with the framing.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described pulley-block consisting of the main frame portion having a central plate, head and foot plates, and shaftsections integral with and projecting in opposite directions from the said central plate, the pulleys and balls on said shaft-sections, and the cap-plates provided centrally With seats for the outer ends of the shafts and lapped at their ends against and secured to the outer ends of the head and foot plates all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
