LAMP-SOCKET.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MAC- LEWEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yardley, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved lump socket; Fi .2 is an elevation of the two parts of the casing detached;Fig. 3isahorizontal section on line 3-3, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4is a vertical section, drawn approximately on line H, Fig. 3.
The metal shell of the lampsocket consists of the body portion 1 and the cap 2. The body portion 1 is provided with a projecting lug 3'and the cap 2 is provided with a slot 4, and a slot 5 formed at right-angles to the slot 4. When the cap 2 is placed upon the body portion 1, the lug 3 enters the slot 4 in the cap, the latter is turned so that the lug 3 will enter the slot 5 in the cap, which brin s the metal tongue 6 below the lug 3, whic will prevent the cap from being pulled ofl the body portion. Upon the body portion 1 is mounted a locking device for preventing the cap from turning upon the body portion.
The locking device consists of a stud 8 slidablyv mounted in a slot 9 formed in the body portion. The stud 8 is rovided with two heads, the inner one of w ich impinges against the fiber insulating lining 10, which holds the stud 8 in either the locked position as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, or in the unlocked position, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. In a lamp socket the combination of a metal shell consisting of two parts, a lug formed upon one of said parts, a projection upon the other one of said arts adapted to engage the lug by turning t e said parts and a sliding member upon the part carrying the lug adapted to engagethe other one of the parts and prevent the parts from turnmg.
2. In a lamp socket the combination of a metal shell consisting of two parts, a lug formed upon one of said parts, a right angle slot formed in the opposite one of said parts to receive said lug, and a sliding stud upon the part carrying the lug adapted to be moved into engagement with the part in which the slot is formed to prevent the latter from turning.
3. In a lamp socket the combination of a metal shell consisting of a body portion and a cap, means for securing said parts together by turning the cap upon the body portion,
a stud slidably mounted in a slot formed in the body portion adapted to engage'the cap and prevent it from turning upon the body portion when in the locked position, and a lining 'within the body portion adapted to press against the stud and hold it in position.
