. a full, clear, and exact description of the f ceptacle when making sales in invention, such as will enable. others 4skilled in the art to which itfappertains to ymake and use the same.
The invention relatesto a stamp box and more particularly tothe class of postage.
stamp holders or receptacles for use by mail carriers in rural districts. Y
`The primary objectr of the inventionis the provision of a holder or; receptacle-of this character wherein postagewstamps of different 4denominations in strip' Y*form are conveniently held therein so `that the same can be fed singly. therefrom .with despatch and separated from the strips in ythe .dis-V tribution:thereof14 the holder or receptacle beingk particularly adaptable forluse by mail carriers in ruraldistiicts for the convenient handling yof the stamps, both inthe carriage of the same and when disposing .thereofv in the sale of said stamps e 1 Anotherv object of the invention isk the,
provision of a holder or receptacle of: this character wherein the stamps will be: re-
tained iu'independent groups andin strip form in accordance with the denominationsV thereof and mayy lbe ,readily ejected from the holder or receptacle in their vstrip formatiorn either singly o1.- Ain predetermined numbers by the user of the holder.Lf or rethe distribution'of` the stamps.
A. further object of the inventionisthe provision of a holder or receptacle of this character wherein the construction thereof is novel in form to hold the strips of postage stamps assorted and to permit the easy feeding of the strips therefrom for ejecting the required number of stamps to be separated from the strip or strips in the. use of the holder or receptacle.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a holder or receptacle of this character, which is simple in construcu end edges abutments for the 4partitions ory tion, economical and 'inexpensive to manufacture and eEective in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists-in the features of yconstruction7 combination and arrangement of parts/.as willr be hereinafterfully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended. l,
In the accompanying drawing Figurel is a top plan view of the holder or; receptacle constructed in accordance with the invention, showing onevof the stamp strips partly ejected therefrom, Fig. 2 isa vertical longitudinal sectional view through the holder` or receptacle,
Fig. 3 is a front endy elevation,
Fig-.4 is a sectional view on the line 4-21 of fFig. l, f ,A
Fig. 5 is a top planview showing the cover or lid and a part of the top broken away. r f f `Referring to thedrawing in detail7 A designates generally a box like body, preferablylof rectangular shape open at its topr for substantially one half of the length of the body, the remaining portion of the top of saidebody being closed through themedium of an eXtensionglO from the front end wall 11v of said bodv, which extension 10 is foldedover onto'the open top `of thebody Amand is ,soldered or' otherwisefffastened to the sides l2 thereof.y Formed interiorly of the vbody A longitudinally thereof are spaced parallel upstanding partitions or division walls 13 providing independent comv partments or chambers within the body, the freeL edge of the extension` l0 being longi tudinallyslotted. at the ypoints of location ofxfthe partitionsxor division walls 13 and these slots 14 extending only a slight distance/Y to provide therebetween tongues which* are downwardly and upwardly curved to form rounded guides 15 at the free edge of the extension 10 for the respective strips 16 of postage stamps of different denorninations, thestrips being folded into layers one upon the other within the compartments or chambers interiorly ofy the body A are adapted to slide over the extension 10 which forms a bed therefor when ejecting the same from the holder or receptacle in a manner presently described.
The guides 15 provide at their adjacent division walls 13 to prevent any lateral dis the 'saine in their vertical position within the body il, the partitions or Walls 13 being soldered or otherwise fastened tO the bottom and opposite ends ot the body. These guides 15 avoid severing' the stamp strips 1G when drawn taut on pulling the saine outwardly from the body of the receptacle A as the extension 10 is devoid of any sharp edO'es at the free end thereof.
Bridging the extension 10 is a stationary Cover section or top section 1T Which is formed with down turned opposite side edges forming' flanges 1S which are soldered or otherwise fastened to the sides of the body Br 1with the @over or top section 17 slightly super-posed relative to the extension 10 to provide a guide Way or ejeoting passage 19 therebetween ior the strips oit stamps 16 which are. ulapted to be fed through the ruido Way or passage 11.9 for ejes-ting the stamps troni the holder or receptacle.
Formed in the stationam7 @over or top section 1T in alinement with the paths of movement of the strips 16 of stamps through the guide way or passage 19 are sight openings or Windows 20 so that the stamps or the strips 1G are readily visible therethroug'l'i as each stamp in the strip is adapted to register with the sight opening or Window and the outermost stamps et the respective strips are adapted to normally underlie the sight openings or Windows and the thumb or other finger of the hand ot the user oi the holder or receptacle can readily engage the exposed stamps through the sight openings or Windows 20 for the feeding' of the strips 1G outwardly of the guide way or passage 19 so that the outer ends of the strips can be Agrasped for the pulling of the saine outwardly the required distance for permitting the tearing ot a single or any number of stamps freni the strip or strips ted from the holder or receptacle.
Fixed to the under tace of the stationary over or top section 17 are forwardly ei;- iending leai springs or resilient lingers Z1 which protrude slightly into the sight openings or windows 2O to trietionally engage the strips 16 tor holding' the said strips flat upon the bed or extension 10 and to prevent the free feeding' of the strips 1o through the guide way or passage 19 to aroid the accidental eiectinoof the stamps from the holder or receptacle.
Hinged or otherwise swingingly connected to the stationary ooyer or top section 17 is a lid or cover 22 Which is Constructed to friotionally telescope upon the body A when closed to Cover the open top portion ot said body and on the opening of the lid or Cover Q2 access may be had to the interior of the body for the placing` of stamp str: ps there in or their removal therefrom.
From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the stamp holder or receptacle will be Clearly understood and therefore more extended explanation has been omitted.
l'Vhat is claimed isz- A. receptacleo't' the character described comprising body open at its top and haring one end Wall extended oyer a portion of the open top and iixed to the sides of the body, a stationary top section bridging' the extension of the end 'wall and forming` a guideway therebetween to permit the passage of strips of stamps therethrough from the interior of the body, alid swingingly Connected to the stationary section and closinggT the open top of the bot y7 friction means Carried by the stationary sect-ion for engaging the strips to hold the saine flat against the end extension Within the ,guide Way, yertieal partitions arranged interiorly or the body longitudinally thereof to form independent eompartments for the strips, and guides out and bent from the free edge of the extension and abuttingv opposite sides of the partitions.
ln testimony whereof, i aiiix my signature, in the presence ot two witnesses.
THOMAS KRELE. lllitnesses C. d. Molnan, SPAM.
