PACKAGE-HOLDER.
an emmem mm. Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
Application filed November 2, 1916. Serial No. 129,112.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, HENRY Hnmwnc, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
'This invention relates to package holders and the object of the invention is to improve ackage holders in the manner to be heremafter described and claimed.
Referring to the .dra'win which accompany this specification and orm a part hereof, which drawings illustrate an embodiment of this invention, and on which drawings the same reference characters are used to designate the same arts wherever they may appear in each 0 the several views, Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of a package holder in use; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 on Flg. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the'arrows; Fi 3 is atop, plan view of the package holder; and Fig. 4 is a bottom, plan view of the package holder, a part being shown in section.
Referring to the drawings, the package holder is composed of a base 1 which is so constructed as to slidably receive or hold a fastening member 2. It is preferred to form the base 1 as a channel member provided with flanges 3 and 4 and the fastening member 2 can lie in the channel 5. Separated bearings 6 and 7 are adapted to rest against the runnin board of an automobile or any other suita le support 8 and any suitable clamping device, such,-f0r example, as the screw 9, carried by a bracket 10, engages with the support 8 between the- bearings 6 and 7 to firmly secure the package holder to the support. It is preferred to have theflanges 3 and 4 elevated above the support 8, as clearly shown by Fig. 1 of the drawings, so that dirt, water or snow Wlll not be collected if the package holder is used in an exposed situation as on the running board of an automobile. It is also preferred to provide the package holder with adjustment means so that the fastening member 2 can having an aperture in oneend be engaged with the package holder to a greater or less extent to correspond with the size of a package to be held. This object can be accomplished by providing a plurality of nfembers such, for example, as the parts 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the base 1 withone or more of which the fastening member 2 can be engaged'in a manner which will be readily understood. Two or more of the package holders can be used for a long package as clearly shown by Fig. 2 of the drawings, and the fastening member 2 can be any suitable flexible device such as an ordinary strap.
The members or parts 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the base 1 provide apertures 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 through which the fastening member 2 can be passed and apertures 26 and 27 are preferably provided so that the fastening member 2 can be passed lengthwise entirely through the base 1.
What is claimed is:
1. A package holder comprising a base a apted to receive a fastening member, the top of the base being provided with a plurality of apertures through either one of which the fastening member is adapted to be passed, the base being provided. with flanges and bearings, the bearings being adapted to rest against a support, the lower edges of the flanges being elevated above the support, and means adapted to clamp the base to the support at a point between the bearings.
2. A package holder comprising a base having apertures at separated points in its length to receive a flexible fastening member for securing packages, depending bearings on the under side of said base, said fastening member beingfreely adjustable lengthwise of said base when it is secured in place to a be a support, and? a clamping device arranged member may be passed! to secure a, package to engage the support on the oppesite side 0 the ease with the base interpesed between from and between said; bearings the fastening member and the package so I e. A package holder composed 0:? a base that the fastening member is free to be 53 provided with depending flanges bearing moved back endiorth members, a bmckei and e elemymg (1%7186 1h "Witness where'ef If hereto efix my sigthe base being provided with e plurality of nature.
