To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Josnrrr H. Kutter, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Lake, in the parish of Calcasieu and State ot Louisiana, have invented a nevv and useful Hose-Coupling, of which the following` is a specification.
One object of the present invention. is to improve the latch mechanism whereby the constituent members of the hose coupling are held together;
Another object oi the invention is to provide, in one oi the members of the coupling, an element which serves as an abutment for the hose, as an abutment for the gasket, and as a place of mounting for the securing element which holds the latch.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for protecting the head of the latch and for protecting the securing element which holds the latch in place.

ln carrying out the present invention, there is provided a main tubular member l, equipped in its interior and intermediate its ends with an annular shoulder 2. ln front of the shoulder 2, a circumscribing groove 3 is fashioned in the main member. A resilient gasket d is mounted 1n the groove 3 and abuts against one face oi' the shoulder 2. 'in
its interior, and to the rear of the shoulder 2 the main member l is supplied vvith cireumferential ridges 5 Which serve to retain a hose 6, Within which is located an espander 7 ofany desired kind, constituting means :t'or maintaining the hose 6 engage` with the ridges 5. The hose 6 and the exI pander 7 abut against the shoulder 2 as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The outer end of the main member l is provided with an external annular bead 8. Outstanding parallel ribs 9 are disposed longitudinally et the main member l, and merge into the bead 8. Resilient tongues l0 lie between the ribs 9, the rear ends of the tongues being attached to the main member l by means olf securing devices il. lt is to be observed that the securing devices ll enter the annular shoulders 2, as shown in Fig. 2. These shoulders 2, therefore, reinforce the main member l to receive the securing devices 1l. Further, the outer ends or heads of the securing devices 1l are housed between the ribs 9 and lie in front of the bead S. the outer ends of the securing devices being protected in this Way, so that the securingdevices will not be likely to become dea skilled mechanic will understand that the` heads may be formed integrally with the spring tongues if desired.
The numeral 12 designates a complementary member having a reduced tubular end 16 received within the main member l and abutting against the gasket 4. The outer end of the complementary member 12 is provided externally With an annularv bead 15 which serves as a protection for the headcarrying end of the tongue l0 when the main and complementary members are locked together, as shown in Fig. 2. The complementary member l2 is supplied With an in ternal annular shoulder l? and in the bore of the complementary member, outwardly7 of the shoulder l?, annular ridges 18ers fashioncd, these ridges serving to retain a hose 19 held in place by an expander 20, the hose and the expander abutting against the shoulder 17.
A salient feature of the invention remains yet to be discussed. It is to be noted that in the outer surface of the complementary member l2, transverse notches 21 are formed, these notches defining shoulders 23, wherevvith the heads 14 of the latch tongues l() engage, to hold the main and comple mentary members of the coupling together,

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:`
