HELEN E. LEIGHTON, OF BOSTON, MASSAOHUSETTB.
vennrmar ran r02. WATER-CLOSET SEATS,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1918 Application filed September 28, 1817. Serial No, 193,653.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELEN E. LmoHToN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suifolk, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Pads for Water-Closet Seats, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of this invention is to provide a protective and sanitary cover for water closet seats and. more particularly for the seats of ublic closets which are used promiscuous y and my improvement consists essentially oi a pad made up of a plurality of tissue, or semi-tissue, sheets which are molded to conform to the contour o molded seat; the arrangement being such that the upper sheet of 'said pad may be readily torn off and destroyed after having been once used, thus leaving the next exposed top sheet of the pad ready for use when needed.
My invention is illustrated in and by the annexed drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a water closet seat showing a pad' of my present improved form and construction mounted on the said seat. Fig. 2 is a central, vertical, sectional view of the water closet bowl and seat with the ad mounted thereon and Fig. 3 is a relatively enlarged top view of the said Referring to these drawings, the letter a indicates a water closet seat of ordinary molded construction, mounted upon the bowl I). My improved sanitary pad is indicated as a whole by the letter a and it consists of a number 0 sheets which are cut to substantially the same shape as the said seat but somewhat large; the outer and inner edges of the pad thus provided being slitted grasped and torn ofl radially, as at d, and conformed, under pressure, to lap around or rather under, the. outer and inner edges of the seat, as will be best understood by reference to Fig. 2 of the drawings; the pad bein thus su ported in proper position on sai seat. T e ront edge portions of the padded sheets are formed as extended flaps e by means of which the sheets may be readily and successively after use. In making up and molding the ad so that it will be held in position on til may gum together the successive slitted portions of the pad and then mold the same before the gum sets, thus roviding in the finished ad, turned in e ge portions that hook un er the water closet seat and are stiff enough to retain the pad in its operative position while the pad is in use and while the sheets are being torn ofl' one at a time.
M described device costs very little to pro uce, it is always in place ready for use and it provides a clean and sanitary seat for each and every user of the water closet.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent In combination with a water-closet seat, a sanitary pad including a plurality of sheets conformed to the general outline of the closet-seat and having slitted marginal edges and said slitted marginal edges being coated with an adhesive and adapted to be molded inwardly upon the underside of the closet-seat, the adhesive upon said edges being plastic as said edges aremolded inwardly to provide for their adherence to the closet-seat, said pad of sheets terminating in extended flaps to serve asfinger-holds for grasping an individual attachment of the sheets.
