THERMOSTAT.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that ll, FREDERICK S. DENI- soN', citizen of the United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thermostats, of which the following is a specification.
The cover or guard mounted on the baser of a thermostat to conceal and protect the therfmostatic bar has generally been secured by means of screws tapped into the wall of the base. A'considerable time has been required for inserting and removing these screws and often the screws arev lost or misplaced when the user of the thermostat attempts to obtain access to the bar.
f The object, therefore, of my invention is to provide a means for mounting this cover which will permit its quick and convenient removal from the thermostatic base and remounting thereon. Y
rlhe invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim,
In the accompanying drawings forming l part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front view of a thermostat with a guard embodyingl my invention mounted thereon,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the guard, being i partially brokenaway,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view, showing the mannervof mounting the guard on the base of the thermostat,
In the drawing, 2 represents the base of the thermostat and 3 a, time piece mounted thereon and 4: the guard which covers-and conceals the thermostatic bar, as usual in devices of this kind. Generally this cover has been secured to the base by means of screws and considerable time is required for removing and inserting them, and as the screws are comparatively small, they are frequently lost when removed, particular] if the work is being done by the owner o the thermostat.
Access to the thermostatic bar is sometimes necessary and to avoldthe inconvenience and delay incident to the usual fastening means Specification of Letters Patent,
the outer walls of the slots, as shown inl Fig. 3, and thereby lock the cover in place on the base.
The lugs are so mounted on the cover .that the edges of the cover walls, when the device isV in use, will lap by the outer' edges of the slots and entirely conceal them, so that a person standing in front of the base or at the side thereof would not be able to distinguish any means for fastening the cover on the base, or any fastening means for the OVBI.
To remove the cover from the base, it is onl necessary to compress the side walls sl ciently to disengage the lugs from the s ots.
