vthe following is a specification.
My present Linvention relates generally to the construction of roads or highways and particularly to an edective economical roadway construction adaptable to either one or two-way roads and my object is the provision of a lasting durable construction by which cheaply constructed concrete body and surface will be presented for travel.
With these general objects in mind, my invention resides in the details to be now described in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a cross section through a twoway road embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is a plan View of a portion thereof,

Referring now to these figures, my invention contemplates a road or highway inthe surface of which are embedded parallel longitudinal tread strips formed of concrete which may be either molded in sections apart from the roadway construction or molded a situ, the latter being preferable and more general, although it is obvious that in either case the formation of 'such strips between forms, permits of a thoroughly 'level even surface being quickly imparted without the danger of humps and moisture retaining hollows such'as all roads are subjected to where they have a continuous concrete construction from side to side.
In a two-way road as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 in the accompanying drawings, the invention proposes three parallel strips 10, 11,
.and 12, the central strip 11 of which is of considerably greater width than the two- 4 side strips 10 and 12, so as to coperate in part with each of these side strips, the spacing between the several strips being in accordance with the usual gage of vehicles and are-placed so as'to accommodate practically all gages.
Figs.V 3- and 4 differ only in the `elimination of the central strip 11 of Figs. 1 and 2, Figs. 3 and 4 being a one-way road only and consisting merely of a pair of parallel spaced strips 13 and 14 of similar width, either these strips 13 and 14 of the figures last mentioned or the side strips 10 and 12 of Figs. 1 and 2 being variable to the eX- tent that where they occupy practically the entire 'width of the highway, or in any other instance where it becomes desirable they may have a coping 15 along their edges as seen in connection wlth the strip 16 of Fig. 5, forming a curve.
My invention also contemplates connection of the parallel roadway strips by reinforced ties 17 as seen in Figs. 6 and-7, these ties being of materially reduced thickness as compared to the strips themselves,
so that they do not appear in the completed roadway surface as will be seen by reference to Figs. 1 and 3. The reinforcements of these lateral ties are preferably in the nature of reinforcing rods 18 extending through the ties as seen in Figs. 6 and 7 in particular, and having angular extremities 19 as seen in Fig. 6 disposed within the roadway strips, the latter of which may have expansion joints 20 atv suitably spaced points and of any suitable formation, connected by reinforcingrods 21 similar to the reinforcing rods 18 of the lateral ties 17.
As a further feature thereof, my invention contemplates connection of the roadway strips at points of intersection by solid concrete platforms 22, one of which is seen in Fig. 8,- either plain or reinforced, and with radius curves 23 at its corners, the strips 10 and 11 and 12 leading to and joining the sides thereof so that the latter will be efectively sustained and reinforced at crossings. In `utilizing my invention it is of course obvious that the tools necessary, as Well as the materials, to make the strips, ties andv generally. It is obvious, however, that myinvention provides for an e'ectve roadway which will be considerably cheaper than the ordinary roadwa which may be much more readily andquic y laid and which will be strong and durable in use.
