Description
L. D. RIVERO.

fw/E/ wiap APPLICATION FILED MAR. 22. I919.
Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
. in order to LUIS DIAZ BIVERO, OF MEXICO, MEXICO.
CONCRETE RAIL FOR MOTOR-DRIVEN VEHICLES WITH RUBBER TIRES.
1 Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NOV. 25-, 1919.
Application filed March 22, 1919. Serial No. 284,437.
To all whom it may concern: 7 Be it known that I, LUIS DIAZ RIVERO, citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Mexico low cost. In countries where rains are so abundant and heavy that washouts and slides frequently destroy the roads, and where the traffic is insuflicient to justify the construction and maintenance of a rail-road, a track of this kind will prove advantageous. Where the soil is suflic'iently resistant, a shallowexcavation is made and therein my reinforced concrete rail is laid. In the drawing which is a perspective view in cross section of a fraction of the track, the rail has been shown with reinforcing bars. The cross section of the rail may vary according to the amount of load to which it is exposed, and in similar manner in some cases the reinforcements may be completely dispensed with, then making the rail of compressed cement, (concrete). I
Vith reference to the drawing, in which-an instance has been shown of how the rail is laid on ground which is not sufficiently resistant, ballast (1) is here used, on top of rail is laid, being composed of. the'foot or base (2) and the projecting web (3). Both through the web portion andthe base (2) of the rail extend reinforcing bars t), some of which are folded downwardly upper surface of the base portion (2) forms the tread or running surface of the rail.
which the engage the soil or'ballast. The J -Especially in curves it is neccessaryto unite the two rails by reinforced rail braces (5). The rainwater is taken off by the drain pipes (6) leading down to the side gutter (7). V I
The gage of this track is of course sufficiently wide in order to avoid tearing and rubbing of the tires against the web portion (3) of the rail.
Havingthus described my invention what I claim is: i i 1. A vehicle track comprising a pair of spaced, concrete rails each embodying an upstandingweb portion and a fiat-surfaced, lateral base portion extending along the inner side of the web and integrally connected therewith, each other and providing the tread of the track; concrete cross-braces connecting the bases together and having fiat upper faces which are flush with those of said bases; and longitudinal reinforcing wires embedded in both the web and the base portions of the track and provided at intervals with depending extensions which project through said portions into the ground.
2. A vehicletrack comprising a pair 'of spaced, concrete rails each embodying an upstanding web portion and a fiat-surfaced, lateral base portion extending along the inner side of the web and integrally connected therewith, the two bases projecting toward the twobases projecting toward,
each other and providing the tread of they T track; concrete cross-braces connecting. the
,bascs together and having flat upper faces which are flush with those of said bases; a
gutter extending along the outer side of each rail and drain )i es extendin transversel beneath the rails into position to discharge into the gutters; substantially as described.
' V In. testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature.
LUIS DIAZ RIVER-O.
