Be it known that I, THOMAS H. NIELSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wyoming, in the county of Kent and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiator-Domes for ings, and to the letters and figures of refer.
ence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for increasing the radiating surface of pipeless heaters and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a pipeless heater in connection with which my invention is illustrated, parts being shown in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the circular radiating drum shown as partly broken away and in section with the auxiliary drum omitted.
Fig. 3 is a Vertical sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, including the auxiliary drum.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letters:
A designates the usual pipeless heater having the double walls B and C spaced apart forming the heating chambers D and E, having respectively exit passageways D and E to the register F in the Hoor H. The upperv portion of the furnace, designated by letter I, is provided with an annular radiating drum O, having a diagonal partition O formed therein, as shown in Fig, 2 of the drawings, and L is a clean-out pipe communicating with the chamber O, and L a smoke pipe leading from the latter.
As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the furnace I communicates through the passageway I with the interior of the auxiliary heating drinn N, having a partition N rising therein and terminating a short distance below the top of said auxiliary heating drum, causing the smoke to make a circuitous passageway through the latter. The auxiliary heating drum has an exit passageway Q. leading into the annular radiating drum. A damper P is mounted in the radiating drum leading from the passageway I, and is pivotally mounted in the walls thereof, and has a crank end P pivotally connected to the operating rod T.
By the provision of an auxiliary heating drum made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that the radiating surface of the furnace is appreciably increased by causing the smoke from the furnace to pass up into the auxiliary heating drum above the partition N, thence down through the opening Q, afterward passing through the annular radiating drum and making exit in the pipe L. All of the products of combustion are caused to take this course when the damper is in a closed position, as shown in Fig. 2 in dotted lilies and in elevation in Fig. 3. When the damper is thrown to a different angle part of the products of combustion from the furnace may pass through into the radiating drum without going through the auxiliary heating drum.
By the provision of an auxiliary heating drum such as described it will be noted that an appreciable amount of heat which otherwise would be lost, is utilized for heating the air before making exit through the register. While my auxiliary heating drum is adapted for heaters in general, it is especally adapted for the type of heater known as the pipeless heater, as illustrated in the drawings.
