PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS I. FONTAINE, OF NEW MADRID, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,031, dated June 18, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Flour and Meal Sifter, invented by THOMAS I. FONTAINE, of New" Madrid, in the county of New Madrid and State of Missouri.
Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved flour and meal sifter. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved mealsifter, formed principally of a frame reciprocated in suitable ways or guides, and of a box secured to said frame by dowel-pins, and adapted to receive sieves of varying grades of fineness, all as hereinafter described.
A in the drawing represents the supportingframe of my improved sitter. In it are the bearings of a shaft, B, upon which an inclined disk, 0, is mounted. v By a suitable system of gearing, a a, or directly, the shaft B is connected with a crank-handle, b, whereby it can be turned. The disk O enters with its upper part a notch or indenture in a frame, D, which rests on rails d d that are aflixed to the frame A. Straps e 0 hold the frame D down on the rails a. When the shaft B is revolved the in clined disk,in turning with it, causes the frame D to be reciprocated on the rails d. E is the box containing the sieve F. It is put upon the reciprocating frame D and connected therewith by projecting dowel-pins or equivalent means. The sieve can be removed from the box E and replaced by others of varying grade.
Having thus described my invention, I claim. as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The improved flour and meal 'sifter, formed by the combination, with the frame A, of the box E, a removable sieve, F, and frame D, secured in guides or ways d e, and reciprocated by the inclined cam or disk O on shaft B, arranged beneath the same, all as specified.
