Description

AUXILIABY ATTACHMENT FOR ENGINES.
APPLICATIQN FILED DEC. 23.1916.
Patented Sept. 24, 1918.
apparent that the initial starting of the engine, the moist air which will be drawn from the radiator yinto the steam dome will be more or less'comleitsed sothat practically all moisture contained within the air will lie condensed and' accumulated within the steain dome upon the exhaust manifold. As soon as the exhaust manifold begins to become heated the condensation or moist. air or vapor in the lteam dome l will -lverted into steam for intake manifold. After the engine has, l')eeo|ne tlu-n'otighl \r heated, the heat radiated from the exhaust'nlanifold will operaie to etl'eetivelv superheat; all steam that is conveyed into the steam -doIne from the radiator.
lt will also be noted that by reason of the particular posit-ion of the auxiliar)v eonveyor pipe D, that the hot4 water in itsA eireu'lation through the water cooling system of the motor will t'reel)y circulate aroundA this pipe. so as to provide additional means for heating: it. wherel'i)r the steam in its pas sage from the radiator through the steam dome will Ibe initially heated prior to its' being sllperheated within the steam dome.
If it'. should be found desirable a ronlrolling valve niay'be positioned between theI steam dome 1 and the intake manifold so as to control the passage of the superhealed steam into thev manifold.
l. ln a motor vchielefthe combination with the engine thereof and-its associated parts, of a cup shaped steam dome mounted upon and secured to the exhaust manifold, a eonveyer pipe entering said steam dome adjacent its upper end and establishin eonnnunieat'ion between the steam dome and the radiator', and a conveyer pipe entering said steam dome adjacent its upper end and establishing communication between said steam dome and the intake manifold of the engine, said steam dome adapted to arrest condensed steam and prevent it from entering into the intake manifold.
2. In eomliination with an internal combustiion engine. and its radiator, of a moisture superheater comprising a hollow element positioned to lie adjacent the engine exhaust pipe, a pipe connection between said element. and'said radiator above the radiator water level, and a pipe connection between said element and the engine intake manifold. both pipe connections into said element being above its bottom wall to thereby form a condensation space between said connections and the bottom wall of said element. l i
In testimony whereof we have signed ou!` 'names to this .speeilication in the presence ,of two sub' ng witnesses.
