MECHANICAL MOVEMENT.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented 'sept'.'en 191s.
Application filed September 21, 1915. Serial No. 51,771.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FISHER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing Vat Bradford, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Movements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in or a modification of the dabbing brush 'mechanism described in the specification of British Letters Patent No. 17,551 of 1913 granted to'me in which the crank shaft is supported in ball or roller bearings in a boss in the supporting casting and a pin on said crank is connected by a ball or roller bearing to one end of a link or connecting rod and a vertically movable dabbing brush slide having a stud or pin is connected by a ball or roller bearing to the opposite end of the said link or connecting rod, and has for its object to eliminate the side pressure between the dabbing brush slide and its guides.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation,Fig.
'2 a plan view and Fig. 3 a front elevation of one construction of dabbing brush mechanism according to this invention in which the crank shaft is situated above the connection between the connecting rod and theV dabbing brush slide.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the broken line a. 1;-, Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 represents a sectional side elevation, Fig. 6 a plan view and Fig. 7 a front elevation of a modication in which the crank shaft is situated below the connection between the connecting rod and the dabbing brush slide.
Referring to the drawings, a is a suitable bracket secured to the usual upright pillar or standard Z) of the combing machine. To the upper portion c, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or the lower portion 01, Figs. 5, 6, and 7 of the bracket a is secured a boss or bearing d in which are inserted, near each end thereof, cages or the like 2 and 3 each containing a series of balls or rollers,'which are adapted to form the bearing for a crank shaft 4. One end of said shaft is provided with the usual pulley 5 which is so constructed as to pro- Y ject over and envelop the said boss d. The
opposite end of the shaft 4 is provided with a crank 41. The crank 41 has a pin 4a to which is connected one end of a rod 6 whose opposite end is forked and is connected to a stud 7 in the dabbing brush slide 8 movable vertically between guide strips on the bracket a and a retaining plate or cover a2.' Y
The crank pin 4a is provided with a roller bearing 9 and the stud 7 with a roller bearing 12. The crank pin 4a may have a ball or other suitable bearing or the stud 7 may have a ball bearing or both may have ball bearings. l
The said bearing 12 in the dabbing brush slide 8 is situated in the same vertical plane v as the bearing 9 on the crank pin 4a so that the connecting rod 6 is straight and not bent as shown in the drawings of above cited specification. By this constructionand arrangement of parts the side pressure between the brush slideV and its guides is eliminated and also the 'side pressure of the bearings at the ends of the connecting rod 6.
Claims 1. In a comb dabbing mechanism, a brush slide, a guide `forA the said slide, a crank, and
a connecting rod pivotally connected with the said crank by a bearing and having a slotted fork straddling the said slide and adjustable longitudinally thereof land pivoted to the latter by a bearing which is disposed so that a transverse plane passing medially therethrough is'coincidentJ with the corresponding plane of the said crank bearing. A,
2. In a comb dabbing mechanism, a brush slide, a guide for said slide. a crank, a connecting rod pivotally connected with said crank by a bearing and having a slotted fork straddling the said slide, a stud adjustably stud between the arms of said fork, and a collar formed on one end of said brush slide and surrounding said bearing.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. WILLIAM FISHER.
