i hmrnn s PATENT G Q I 'MANUEL IBOUZO, OF HABANA, CUBA.
DEVICE FOR ADJ USTABLY CONNECTING THE YOKE TO THE 'POLFS'OF CARTS.
To all whom it mag/concern.
Be it known that I, MANUEL BoUzo, a
citizen of the Republic of Cuba, and a resident of Habana, Republic of Cuba, haveinventeda certain new and useful Device for Adjustabl Gonnecting the Yokes to the Poles of arts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. This inventionrelates tothe' connection of the yoke to the'p'ole of the ox drawncarts and its object is firstly to provide an adjustable device to such end thus preventing the inconveniences occasioned by the wooden blocks and ropes at present in use, whichdo not'alwaysoflfer the same resistance in View of theyielding of the rope, and secondly, to providea device which will be detachable, a fact that is of considerable advantage in such cases when it is necessary to separate the couple of oxen from the cart, such as occurs with the carts used for the hauling of sugar cane when reaching the mill, to dump the cart and discharge the load therefrom on to the carrier to the grinding machine.
In the annexed drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a yoke secured "to acart pole by means of the device which is the subject-matter of this invention.
Fig- 2 is a vertical cross-section of the yoke, taken on the line IIII of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
' Fig.- 3 is'an upper plan view of the device.
4 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical section of part of the device.
Fig. 5 is a detail showing in perspective the curvedbolts the loopforl'ning a part of the device.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of the shooting hook of the device.
Fig. 7 is a rear elevation of said shooting hook.
Fig. Sis a side elevation of the same shooting hook, in its closed and opened position.
And Fig. 9 is a perspective view'of the key-bar used to open the shooting hook.
This device comprises two bolts 1, 2,- having their upper ends threaded and their lower'ends slightly curved and terminating in eyes 3, 4 to which are connected the ends of a metallic loop 5, the upper threaded ends of said bolts passing freely or without screwing through holes in an end portion of a horizontal plate 6 of rectangular shape and Specification of Letters Patent. 1 211391113611 Sept.-17,-- 191S.-
Application filed February 19, 1918. Serial No'. 218,089. e g i i i said bolt-ends carrying 011 said plate 6,- nuts 7 and 8. The opposite end portion of said plate 6 is provided with holes through which pass freely or without screwing, the upper threaded endsofa U-shapedpiece 9, whose lower'branch is curved as shown at 9 and 9", said upper piece 'endsvbearing on said plate 6 by means of nuts 10 and 11. From the lower portion of said U-shaped piece is pending, through an eye 12formed in its upper part, a support 13, curved at its lower half, and on whose lower end is pivoted at 14 a shooting hook 15 which is" held in raised position or fixed to its supp0rt'13 bymeans of a clamp 16 pivoted on 17 on the support 13 andprovided with a stem 18, this clamp embracing said hook when in its raised position. On this hook 15 laces a ring 19 mounted on said loop 5. e 1
Plate 6 shows three holes longitudinally alined the central one of which is of plain surface and the two others of threaded surface. Through the plain hole passes a vertical guiding bolt 20 which presents on its upper end a head 21 and is fixed at'its lower end by screwing or by any other means to a rectangular plate 22 below and parallel to plate 6 and narrower than the latter, said plate being located between the two bolts '1 a'nd'2 and between the two lateral branches of the U-shaped piece 9. Through the threaded holes of plate 6 there are passed screws 23 and 24 presenting on their upper ends eyes 25 and 26 and terminating at their lower ends in the form of bolts of less diam eter which pass through holes in the lower plate 22 and have their lower ends countersunk in corresponding recesses of plate 22,
whereby the screws 23 and 24 are held fast by plate 22 but are rotatory upon themselves. In a similar manner, on the plain lower thinner ends of screws 23 and 24 are mounted above'plate 22 washers 27 and 28 that-prevent the do-wnward movement of these screws 23 and 24 and on these screws and above plate 6 there are mounted counter nuts 29 and 30.
This device is mounted on the yoke 31- and the pole 32 of a cart so that the latterfand the block 33 be embraced by the two bolts 1 and 2, the U-shaped piece 9, the support 13, the shooting hook 15, and the metallic loop 5; the yoke 31 passing between both bolts 1 and 2 and between the two vertical I 7 branches of U-shaped piece 9, the lower plate adjust the device,
22 bearing'on, upper face ofyoke 31. To the. bolts. 1 and 2 and the U-shaped piece 9 are tightened upon yoke 31, block 33 and pole 32 by properly turn- 34 applied o 7 and 8 and the counter nuts 29 and 3 0 are then tightened on screws 23 and 24 against plate 6. To detach the device or to separate the yoke 31 from the pole 32 it is only necessary to shoot ofi'the hook 13 that locks the device onthe yoke and pole, to which end is used the samebar 34 which carries on its end a block 35, provided with a clamp 16,- as shown m hole '36andwhichproperly forms a key by mountingthe hole 36 over the stem 18 of Fig. 2 of the drawing and said clampis turned upwardly on its pivot 17 :so as to disengage the shooting hook 15, as indicated in dotted lines on Fig. 8 of the drawings, whereby and owing to the tension of loop 5 said hook 15 turns down- 'wardly on its pivot ring 19 of said loop and the device free from 1 1 thus lettingloose the the pole 32 and yoke 31.
In order to lock the device'again,.the yoke 31 is placed once more on pole 32 with'the block 33 intermediate so that the latter and the pole 32 be embraced by bolts 1 and 2 on one side the -U-shaped piece 9 and support 13 and hook 15 at the other side, and the loop 5 is raised, lacing the ring 19 on hook 15 which in turn is raised on its pivot 14, and over its upper end the clamp 16 is lowered on its pivot 17 until holding in its locked position. I
. It is obvious that the form of the difi'erent pieces forming the device can be slightly locking means,
changed without altering the essential character of the invention, which'is as pointed out in thefollowing claims. 1 What I claim is: I
