To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN BoN'rYA, a citizen of Hungary, and residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New J ersey, have invented a new and useful Condiment-Holder, of which the following is a specification. l

The present invention relates toy condiment holders.

An object ofthis invention is to provide a relatively small compact article adapted to contain a plurality of different condiments; to provide the device with selectively operated means for individually feeding the condiments from the device one at a time; and to provide a novel form of receptacle or container for the condiments.

The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will be in part described and in part understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary section taken through the upper end of the device on the line 6 6 ofFig. 2, showing the mounting of the slides in the cap and the fitting thereof upon the partition in the receptacle.

Referring to these drawings 10 designates a receptacle which may be of any suitable material, such as glass as shown in the present instance, and which isprovided at its upper endwith an externally threaded attaching flange 11 to receive a cap or closure. The receptacle 10 is divided into any desired number of compartments by the provision of `partitions 12 arranged radially within the receptacle and formed preferably of sheet metal. It is preferred to form three separate compartments in the receptacle, for salt, black pepper, and red pepper, these being the more frequently used condiments.

Fitted to the top of the receptacle is a cap 13 which is relatively deep and provided in its top with groups of perforations 14 of the desired size for controlling the sifting of the contents from the respective compartments. titions 15 corresponding in number with the partition 12 and adapted to register therewith and lie in the same vertical planes thereof when the device is assembled. To facilitate the registering'of the partitions l5 and 12, one or more of the partitions, such as one of the partitions 15 as shown, may be provided with a pair of diverging lips or projections 16 for finding `and receiving therebetween an opposite partition, and which are used for holding the partitions in register.

The base of the cap 13 has an outstanding flange 17 adapted to seat upon the upper edge of the receptacle 10. An attaching ring 18-fits over the cap 13 and against the flange 17 and is provided with internal threads for interlocking engagement with the flange 11 vof the receptacle.

The cap 13 is provided with par` Within each compartment of the cap there is placed a slide or shutter 19 of segmental form and which engages against the inner side of the top of the cover and is provided with perforations corresponding in numberv and size to the perforations 14 of the re-" spective group for opening the compartment through the cap. The slide 19 is formed with a tongue 20 at its inner end adapted to receive therethrough a leaf spring 21 which is bowed under tension into the angle between the adjacent partitions 15 and which has its ends seated in grooves or ways 22 to support the inner end of the shutter 19. The outer end 'of the shutter is provided with a tongue 23 slidably engaging through a circumferential slot formed in the side of the cap 13 and projecting therebeyond to form a button adapted to be pressed by the finger to shift the shutter inward.

The receptacle 10 may be provided with panels 24 in its sides which correspond to the compartments within the receptacle and which may be of different colors or otherwise provided or formed with distinguishing characteristics for designating the contents of the compartments, 4

In operation it is only necessary to grasp the receptacle 10 in the hand with the thumb or finger on the button 23 controlling the selected compartment. The button is now extending partitions therein forming independent compartments, said partitions having horizontal shoulders in their opposite walls spaced from the upper edges 'of the partitions, a cap closing the receptacle and provided with groups of perforations one group for each compartment, a perforated shutter slidably mounted against the underside of the cap for each compartment and f arranged between adjacent faces of the partitions, a leaf spring secured to the inner end of each shutter and ybeing bowed inwardly vwith its ends bearing against the opposite faces of the partitions and resting upon said shoulders for supporting the shutter and the spring, and buttons carried by the shutters andextending radiallythrougli the cap formoving the shutters radially inward against the tension of the spring for individually opening the compartments.

In a condiment holder, the combination of a receptacle provided with radially eX- tending partitions therein forming independent compartments, a cap closing the receptacle, a plurality of partitions within said cap adapted for registration with the receptacle carried partition, means carried by certain of the cap carried partitions for engagement over the upper portion of the corresponding receptacle carried partition for maintaining the cap and receptacle in proper relation, said cap provided with groups of perforations one group for each compartment, a perforated shutter slidably mounted against the under side of the cap for each compartment and arranged between adjacent spaces of the partitions, said cap carried partition provided with ways forming shoulders7 a leaf spring secured to the inner end of each shutter and being bowed inwardly with its ends bearing against the opposite faces of the partition and` resting upon said shoulders for supporting the shutter andspring, and means positioned exteriorly of the cap for moving the shutter radially inward against the tension of the spring for individually opening the compartments.

In a condiment holder, the combination, of a receptacle, a cap closing the receptacle and provided with perforations, a perforated shutter slidably mounted against the under side of the cap, a plurality of radiating partitions within said cap and provided with waysy forming shoulders, a leaf spring secured to the inner end of the shutter and -being bowed inwardly with its ends bearing against the opposite faces of said partition and resting upon said shoulder for supporting the shutter and spring,l

said spring maintaining said shutter in a perforation closing position, and buttons carried by the shutter and extending through the cap for moving the shutter inwardly against the tension of the spring for opening the perforations in the cap.
