STIRRUP-STRAP CLIP.
Application filed July 25, 1917'.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1.. Beware C. ane, a citizen. of the United States, residing at Rifle, in the county of Garfield, State of Colorado, 'have invented certain new and useful improvements in Stirrup Strap Clips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stirrup straps, and particularly to novel means for mounting the same on saddles.
One object of the present inrention to provide a novel and etlicient means for con necting the stirrup straps to the saddle whereby forward and movement of the stirrup straps is readily permitted.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a saddle show ing my improved means of attaching the stirrup straps thereto.
F 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line H of Fig. 1.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing 10 represents a saddle which includes the metal seat plate 11 which extends longitudinally in the center or the upper portion of the saddle. Extending transversely of this plate, and pivotally connected thereto by means of the rivet 12, is a strap 13, the ends of which depend to short distances atthe sides of the saddle. A metal plate 141 is secured to each end of this strap and said plate has its other end formed with a circular boss 15 in which is formed an opening 16. This boss is disposed on one side of the end of the plate and the end of the strap is disposed with its lower end against the upper side of the boss, as clearly seen in the drawing. A looped stirrup strap 17 has its ends directed upwardly, While a second strap 19 is disposed within the loop Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,

of the strap 17, one end being secured to one portion of the strap 17 by means of the lacing strip while the other end is disposed between the ends of the said strap 17.
The ends of the strap 17 with one end of the strap 19 therebetween, are secured between the pair of plates said plates being preferably formed from metal and straddling the boss of the plate 14:, a rivet 25 being disposed through the boss and the plates 2% for pix-*otally connecting the plates to the boss. Formed on one side of the strap 19 is a guard plate portion 26 which iuterposes itself between the leg of the rider and the side of the horses body.
The stirrups are engaged in the loops formed by the straps 17 and 19, as will be understood.
It will thus be seen that the rider can easily move his legs forwardly and rearwardly by reason of the pivotal connections between the stirrup straps and the strap 13. Also. by the arrangement of the strap 13, in connection with the seat plate. a. more effective device is produced, and one wherein the stirrup straps are not liable to pull out of the saddle. Furthermore, the rider has freer movement of the legs while riding, being able to move them forwardly and rearwardly to greater distances than with the stirrup straps as heretofore constructed and arranged on the saddles.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a saddle and a transversely disposed and pivoted strap, carried by the saddle. of a pair of stirrup straps, clips connected to the stirrup straps and to the ends of the first named strap and each including a plate secured to the end of the first strap and having a centrally apertured boss on the outer end thereof, and a pair of plates disposed on opposite sides of the stirrup strap and straddling and being pivoted to the said boss, whereby the stirrup strap is permitted free forwardly and rearwardly swinging movement with relation to the saddle.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses,
EDWARD C. WEBB.
