This invention relates to improvements in:

looms and more particularly to'rimprove ment in picker. sticks. The invention broadly comprises a rocker member that is pivot ally attached to the rear side of the picker stick proper. This member is so constructed and arranged as to impart a gradual 01'111'11:

form blow to the rear side of the -stick,. the force of the blow of the rocker member is designed to engage the picker stick over a considerable. portion of its length. An object of the invention is to connect the rocker member to the sweep-stick by means of a lug strap formed of a single or integral part, preferably of malleable iron, whereby the breakage and wearof this part of the mechanism is reduced to a minimum. In

' the construction of picker sticks at the present time, so faras I am aware, the lug strap is usually made of fabric, leather or other flexible material, resulting in'rapid wear and expense in frequent renewals of the same. By constructing the lug strap of malleable iron, it may be easilybent to accommodate picker and sweep sticks of different widths.

Referring to the drawings in detaili 'An upright portion of the loom is indi cated 1 and the lay rock-shaftz and breast beam at2 and-3 respectively, to which the upright member 1 is attached. Secured to the stick :isa casting 7by means of the bolt 8.

The casting 7 is. formed with ascrrated edge member that is pivotally connected to the casting 7 by means of the stud 11, on the extension 11. This member is formed with a curved or cam shaped surface 12 near its lower and pivotal end connection, the purpose of which is to cushion or lessen the force of the blow between the rocker member and the stick when the sweep-stick 13 is operated with the result that a gradual blow is imparted to the picker stick. The rocker member 10 is connected to the sweep-stick 5 by means of the lug strap which comprises an integral one-piece member that is clearly shown in Fig. 2 and includes the side members 14 and 15 and a connecting pivotal portion 16; the inner ends ofthe side members are formed with openings 17, 18 and 19 through which a securing bolt 20 passes and also through the opening in the end of the sweep-stick 13. A portion of the rocker member 10 is removed in order to connect the lug strap thereto. This removed portion comprises a piece 21, which piece, after bein removed, is again fitted in place and secured to the rocker member by means of the screws indicated at 22. The inner surface of the rocker member 10 is preferably covered with felt as indicated at 23, for the purpose of lessening the force of the blow imparted by the rocker member to the picker stick. It will be seen from this construction that when the sweep-stick 13 is operated at a 7 high rate of motion the rocker member 10 is movedagainst the rear edge'of the picker The cam surface 12 causes the rocker to gradually engage therear surface of the stick without lmpartmga sudden-on impulsive blow to the stick, thus lessening the liability of injuring the shuttle or other parts associated therewith.

It will be noticed that the casting 7 which secures the rocker member 10 to the picker stick 5 is formed witha rib 7 which 7 would.
