IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-EINDRS CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,882, dated June '11, 1872 5 antedated May 28, 187.2.
To all whom it may concern:
I, GILBERT F. HOLLAND, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain neW and useful Improvements in BindingMachines, of which the following is a specification:

General Description.
K, Fig. 2, represents the base to which the other parts are attached. B is a buttress made fast to the base K, and forms one side of the folding channel M. E is a depth-plate made fast to the buttress B, and extending, as shown, so as to form a bottom for the channel M. A is a movable jaw, provided with a slot, e, Fig.
2, in which the depth-plate E extends. This jaw A is thrown back by springs S, one of which is shown in Fig. 2, and is moved forward by the cam-lever P.
To use my machine I proceed as follows: The book, pamphlet, lor folded card T T, Fig. 3, is llirst made ready for the binding R. The binding It is pasted and laid over the groove M, which must be of Width and depth to suit the Work to Which it is applied. NOW the book is pressed carefully down upon the bind'- ing and into the groove M. This operation causes the binding to fold up onto the sides, as shown at R, Fig. 3. Now, if the jaW A is forced hard uprit will clamp the binding {irmly ontothefbook and complete the operation.
-This machine is usually made of sufficient length to take in a number of books at each operation.
I claim as' my `invention- The combination of the buttress B, the jaw A, and depth-plate E with the operating device P, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
