a citizen of the United States, residing at be carried, the'construction of the copy-- holder being such as to allow the ready transportation thereof from place to place, so as to obviate the removal of the book A further object of my invention is to provide a copyholder which, in use, is adapted to rest upon a desk adjacent a typewriter keyboard and at substantially the same height and angle of inclination, so as to facilitate the copying work.

' A still further object of my invention is to provide suitable improved foldable supporting legs of a novel and practical character, whereby to support the copyholder ata convenient height and angle.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a line guide and carrier therefor, said carrier serving as reinforcing means for the body of the copyholder.

With the above and other objects in view my invention resides, preferably, in the construction, combination, h and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the-accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a copyholder embodying the improvements of my invention;

Fig. 2 is a top plan view ofv my improved copyholder, the supporting legs being partly folded;

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction the arrow;

Fig. 4 is a view of the blank of metal from which the copyholder is formed; and

Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the guide detached.

Referring more particularly to the drawmy invention is illustrated, I have provided an improved copyholder comprising a body or frame 1, formed, preferably, of sheet metal having the longitudinal edges thereof extended to provide flanges 2 which are adapted to be rolled into engagement with the intermediate portions 3 and 4 of strands of wire bent substantially right angularly on their respective extremities to provide supporting legs 5 and 6. The supporting legs are preferably of different lengths, whereby to support the frame 1 at an inclination, preferably in a plane coincident with the plane of a typewriter keyboard. This disposition of the frame obviates the necessity of turning the head to any great extent when copying, thereby removing strain from the eyes of the copyist, as well as preventing fatigue. The free extremities of the legs are formed to provide feet 7 having a suitable antislipping covering 8 of rubber or the like. It will be readily apparent that the legs may be easily folded under the body 1 when it is desired to pack the holder or when taking dictation, thereby obviating the necessity of removing the notebook. The flanges 2 are provided with lateral extensions 9 adjacent their upper extremities'to afford stops for limiting the.

I provide an improved line guide for use in connection with my copyholder, said guide being formed of. a strip of bendable metal 14. A guide carrier is provided, which embodies a strand of wire 8 having its extremities bent at right angles to provide arms 16, the tongues 11 and flange 12, hereinbefore described being rolled about and permanentlyconnected to said arms as at 11 and 12 in Figs. 1 and 2. ginal edge of the frame or body 1, and the guide 14. is slidable thereon, by virtue of the engagement of the semi-tubular portion 15 thereof with said strand 8. The strip 14 is extended to provide a finger engaging portion 18 to facilitate the movement of the guide, and to raise the same from the mat- .ter being co ied. It will be seen from. an inspection 0 the drawing that the strand 8, as formed, not only serves to carry the line guide, but also serves as a reinforcement for the frame, to maintain the latter rigid.

I provide an improved book or aper sheet clamp, which comprises, prefera 1y, a strand of wire S having its opposite extremities bent .inwardly as at 19 to form arms, said arms terminating'in bearing portions 20, about which the tongues 10 are rolled, as at 10" in"Figs.'1 and 2 thereby hinging said clamp. Suitable coiled springs 21 or the like are wound about the bearing portions 20, said springs having their free extremities bearing upon the edge of the frame and the strand or clamp S. A notebook B or the like is shown in Fig. 1.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of construction and use of my improved copyholder may be had, and it will be seen that such construction affords a device which may be carried from place to place to take dictation, being light in weight and quickly and easily set up. I desire to lay particular stress upon the peculiar mounting of the supporting legs, which permits the folding of the same. This arrangement further serves to reinforce the body of the device and prevent buckling.

In a copy holder, the combination of a bodyformed of a blank having the corners thereof recessed to provide side and end tongues, certain of said tongues being rolled to form side and end tubes, support members for the body formed'of rods having their free ends bent to form legs, the intermediate portions of saidrods being rotatably arranged in the side tubes, and a line guide support formed of a rod having the free ends thereof bent for reception in said end tubes to assist the side rods in reinforcing. the body.
