JOHN ROSS STEVENSON, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.
STENTERING 0R STRETCHING DEVICE FOR STEAM CAN-DRYING MACHINES FOR TEXTILE FABRICS.
Original application filed January 7, 1315, Serial No. 996.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1918.
Divided and this application filed April 5, 1916.
Serial No. 89,214.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Ross STEVEN- soN, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland and the Isle of Man, and a resident of Glasgow, Scotland, bleacher, have invented new and useful Improvements in stentering or Stretching Devices for Steam Can-Drying Machines for Textile Fabrics, being a division of my application for U. S. patent, Serial No. 996, filed Jan. 7, 1915, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises improvements in stentering or stretching devices for steam can drying machines for textile fabrics, such as that described and illustrated in my English Patent #8553, A. D. 1912.
The steam can drying machine to which the improvements of this invention are applicable consists of a series of revolving heated cans or cylinders arranged parallel with each other and with their axes horizontal. Above the cans and intermediate of same a series of grooved wheels is arranged and the fabric which is held by stentering pins or clips arranged in the form of a chain is passed around the lower surface of the cans. The pins or clips are attached to blocks or carriages which are guided in suitably formed and placed rails around the cans, and in the grooves of the wheels above.
According to this invention I provide connecting bars fitted between the wheels and having an adjustable or telescopic construction so that the distance between said wheels may be varied and regulated as desired, the arrangement being such that the wheels and their connecting bars form a series of guiding frames over which the cloth passes while the carriages travel in the grooves of the Wheels.
In order that others skilled in the art to which the improvements of this invention relate may properly understand same I have hereunto appended one sheet of explanatory drawings in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the inner side of one of the wheels, Fig. 2 is a plan of same, and Fig. 3 is a section of one of the bars.
Referring to these drawings In carrying the improvements of this invention into effect or practice each connecting bar or tube is composed of three parts, two end parts i and an intermediate part j sliding over the parts 2'. These bars or tubes are connected to the wheels 3 by uni-.
versal joints of the class shown each bar ters Patent is 1. A drum fora cloth drying machine consisting of a pair of chain supporting wheels; with members extending between the outer portions of said wheels and movably connected thereto. 7
2. A drum for cloth drying machines consisting of a pair of chain supporting wheels;
and telescoping bars adjustably connecting V the outer portions of said wheels.
3. A drum for cloth drying machines consisting of a pair of chain supporting wheels; and telescoping barsjadjustably connecting said wheels, each of said bars consisting of two end sections respectively connected to the wheels and an intermediate section slidably engaging said end sections.
4. A drum for cloth drying machines consisting of a pair of chain supporting wheels; a series of telescopically adjustable bars extending between said wheels; and universal joint connections between the bars and the wheels.
5. A drum for cloth drying machines con sisting of two wheels; a series of bridge pieces respectively connected to said wheels; bars extending between said wheels and each having enlarged ends movably engaging the bridge pieces on the wheels to form universal joints therewith.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.v
JOHN ROSS STEVENSON.
Witnesses: I
JOHN STEWART, ALEXR. ARvoL.
