IMPROVEMENT IN IRONINGFTABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,792, dated June 11, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Tables, invented by JAMES T. PLOWMAN, Sr., of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland.
The object of this invention is to furnish a cheap, convenient, and durable table for ironing purposes, and one which may be used for other purposes; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing,Figure l represents a vertical section of the table taken on the line a.' w of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a vertical crosssection taken on the line y y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the table. B is the top; C, the rails; and D, the legs. The legs and rails are put together in the usual manner, and the part of the top, each side of the middle or extension piece E, is fastened down and made stationary as in ordinary tables. The portion E of the top is made to draw out, as seen in Fig. 1. This part is confined by a cross-piece, F, which is attached to its under side. G Gr are cleats,
attached to the rails of the table so as to leave' grooves between them and the top of the table,
in which the cross-piece slides. The cross-pieceY F acts as a stop against the end rails in drawin gthe extension leaf out, and also when shoved in or closed.
When the leaf E is extended, as seen in Fig. l, the cross-piece holds it in position. In this position the leaf acts as a lever, and any weight upon it would have a tendency to tip the opposite end up; but I provide for this by fastening the opposite end of the table to the floor bya hook, H, as seen in the drawing. This hook is attached to the middle of the rail by a staple, and is hooked into a staple driven into the floor, as seen in the drawing. When the leaf E is not in use the hook is fastened up beneath the table by a supporter I.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The leaf E, having the cross-piece F, in combination with the table A provided with the cleats G G and hook H, all constructed as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
