' QUILT-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent. P t t d Sept. 3, 1918.
Application filed May 16, 1918. Serial No. 234,968.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SUSIE M. HOPPER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hays, in the county of Ellis and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Quilt-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in quilt fasteners, and has for its object to. provide mechanism of the character specified for holding a quilt in the quilting frame Without the necessity of sewing the quilt to the frame.
In the drawings: 7
Figure 1 is a perspective View. of a portion of the frame, with the quilt in place;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fi 1, looking in the direction of the arrows ad acent to the line;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the clamps.
' In the present embodiment of the invention the quilting frame 1 has secured thereto at regular intervals and at the proper distances from each other yoke shaped brackets, each consisting of a body-2 and arms 3, the arms being right angular in form, cured to the frame by means of screws 4, and a clamping plate, consisting of portions 5 and 6 extending at an obtuseangle with respect to each other, is journaled between the arms of each brackets Each of these clamping plates, as shown, has longitudinally extending journal pins 7 at its ends and at the junction of the portions 5 and 6, and these pins are journaled in openings in the arms of the bracket. The
Preferably, these supports are se- 1 free edgeof the portion 6 is provided with teeth, as shown, and these teeth are adapted to engage the quilt 8. A plate 9 of metal,
or the: like is secured tothe under face of V the quilting frame, the said plate extending far enough inside the frame ,to form'a support for the edge of the quilt, the quilt edge being clamped between the plate and the teeth of the plate 56. I
In use, the edge of the quilt is inserted between the plates 5-6 and 9 when the por tion 5 of the plates 5--6 are swung upwardly. This releases the portions 6', moving them' substantially parallel with the plate 9. The edge of the quilt isthen inserted, and the plates 5-6 are swung downwardly into the position of Fig. 2. The quilt is then held firmly clamped in the frame while at the same time it may be easily released.
I claim:
In combination with a quilting frame, of,
plates secured to the under surface of the frame and extending inwardly beyond the frame, the edges of the quilt being adapted.
to rest upon'these plates, a series of yoke shaped brackets secured to the inner face of the quilt frame, each bracket comprising a body secured tothe frame and inwardly extending arms, and a clamping plate ournaled in the arms and cooperating with the firstnamed plate to grip the quilt, said clamping plate consisting of two portions extending at an anglewith respect to each other, one of the said portions having teeth and engaging the quilt, the other serving as a handle for swinging the plate.
