I v NON-BEFILLABLE BOTTLE. APPLICATION man my: 19:
1,Q'75,856. Patented A g. 13, 1918.
i i Ifjnpp licationiiledFebruaryg,
To all wh m'a a eaaamrj) .Be it known thatl JOSEPH J. CO Y, a citizen of y the United. States, residing at Rochester, in the county] of Monroe and State of New York have invented new and useful Improvements inNon-Refillable Bottles, of
pointed out in the claims.
which the following is specifica tion. p p This invention relates to. a bottle of the non-refillablegtype and the primary object of the invention is to provide a receptacle of this character having a neck which comprises a unitary structure throughout its length and is provided with means whereby a valve of novel construction adapted to control the passage of liquid through the bot- .tle neck may beheld out of engagement with the seat therefore during the initial filling of the bottle.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly In the drawing- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation partly in section of a bottle the neck of which is constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the bottle inverted. p
Fig. 3 is across sectionon the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. i is a detail perspective View of the valve. 1
Like characters of reference denote the corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring now to the drawing in detail the letter A designates a bottle wherein the neck 13 is constructed in accordance with the invention and comprises a unitary structure throughout its length.
The neck B of the bottle has formed therein at diametrically opposite points, openings 5 whichare in line with an annular groove 6 in the inner wall of the bottle neck. A partition 7 extends transversely of the bottle neck above the groove 6 and is provided with a central opening 8 which establishes communication between a pair of chambers 9 andllO formed in the bottleneck by the partition 7 The chamber 10 is dis posed below the partition 7 and gradually decreases in diameter from its upper to its lower end, so that the wall of the chamber valve 11 whichis located in the chamber 10am controls the passage of 'fluidthrough the neck B.
Theyalve 11 comprises a substantially cone 1 shaped stem 12 which for greater T niece.
When it is desired to pour the contents from the bottle A the bottle is inverted as shown in Fig. 2 in the drawing which causes the valve 11 to leave its seat and to be supported within the chamber 10 through the engagement of the disk 14 with the projections 15.
When the bottle is restored to its normal position the valve 11 is caused bygravitv to engage its seat and prevent any liquid which might be poured within the chamber 9 entering the bottle body. p r l From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is apparent that a non-refillable bot- 3 tle has been provided wherein provision has is claimed as new, is: 1.' A bottle having a valve in its neck adapted to control the passage offiuid there- Having thus describedthe'invention what through and means comprising a partof the bottle neck adapted to be engaged with said valve at :the time the ,bottle wasfilled to support the valve in position in the bottle neck to allow liquid to pass through v the 'therethrough and pins in said openings adapted to be engaged with said valve at the time the bottle was filled to hold said valve in position in the bottle neck to allow liquid to be poured through the neck into the bottle. w I v 3'. A bottle having a neck providedwith spaced openings therein, a valve in the bot- "tle-ne'ck to'control thepassage oi fluid therethrough having a circumferential'ly extendin'gf flange at one end thereof, pins closing the openings in the bottle neck, and beveled ends on said pins: adapted to be inserted beneath the flange on the valve to hold the same in: position within the neck to allow fluid to be passed through the neck and into the bottles 4. A bottle having an annular groove in the inn'er wall of its neck, a valve seat in the bottle neck below said groove, a valve in said neck engageahle with said seat having a circumferentially extending flange thereon extending within said groove, pins in said neck in line with said groove. and beveled ends on. said pins adapted to be passed beneath the flange on said valve to hold valve out of engagement with its seat during the filling of the bottle.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH J. CORY.
