HENRY PEZZTTI, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
STRETCI-IER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
i Application led April 1, 1918. Serial N o. 225,925.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY PEZZETTI, a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a stretcher capable of resting upon the floor or ground, of suspension in an ambulance, and of being carried by bearers. Another object of the invention is to so construct the stretcher that it will afford a maximum amount of room for the occupant, will be short enough to go into an ambulance and can be made long enough to conveniently carry it. s'
The invention will be claimed at the end hereof, but will be first described in connection with the embodiment of it chosen for illustration in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l, is a perspective View of the stretcher,
Fig. 2, is a transverse sectional view thereof, and
Fig. 8, is a View, drawn to an enlarged scale, illustrating one end of the stretcher.
The stretcher consists of side members 1, and end members 2, constituting a rectangutopies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner lar frame to which is connected a suitable bed-bottom 3. Therectangular frame may well consist of tubular metal or pipe sections connected at their ends by pipe fittings 4. Similar pipe fittings 5 may well be used to attach the legs 6. The pipe fittings 4f are provided with a hinge member 7 and with a spring catch 8. Handles 9, provided with hinge members 10, are connected to the hinge members 7 and these handles 9 are provided with a keeper ll for the catch 8 and with a spring detent 12 adapted to coperate with the leg 6. y
When the handles are turned into the position shown in Fig. 3, the detents l2, keep them in that position and the stretcher is comparatively short and can be suspended by the arms 13 in an ambulance which, of course, should be as compact as possible.
To carry the stretcher, the handles 9 are turned into the position `shown in dotted lines in Fig. 8, in which position they `are held by the spring catches 8.
What I claim is:
In a stretcher the combination of a legged frame provided with spring catches and handles hinged to the frame and provided with keepers for the catches and with detents for coperation with the legs, substantially as described.
