HOMER VIDRINE, or HOUSTON, TEXAS, AssrGNoR crown-HALF To L. L. BROUSSARD,
or HoUs'roN,` TEXAS.
FOLDING c3113'. i
Ispwification of Letters Patent.. A Patented Aug. 13, 1918.
Application filed February 9, 1918. Serial No. 216,204.l
To allwwmz'zfmag/ concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER .VIDRINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris andState of Texas, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Folding Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a folding crib.
The object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described which may be folded up into compact form so that it may be readily stowed away when not in use.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a crib of the character described which, when folded, is arranged to retain the mattress and covering.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrange` ment of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:-
Figure l, is a perspective view of the crib.
Fig. 2, is a side view with the mattress retainer removed.
Fig. 3, is an end view, showing the crib in collapsed position.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6, show fragmentary end views.
Fig. 7, shows a fragmentary side elevation, and
Figs. 8 and 9, show respectively an end and a front side member of the crib.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numerals 1, 1, refer to the supporting legs of the rear side of the crib which are spaced apart and connected by the bars 2, 2,
said bars forming supports for the crossV slats 3. Projecting forwardly from the respective legs l, 1, and spaced below the lower cross bar 2, are the arms 4, 4, to which the mattress retainer is pivoted. This retainer is composed of the ends 5, 5, and the sides 6, 6, formed of suitable open-work, and is provided with the reticulated bottom 7 and is of suitable dimensions to receive the mattress. Its ends are pivoted to the free ends of the arms 4, 4, as shownin Figs. 1 and 4, and its outer edge is supported by means of the legs 7, 7, which are hinged thereto, and when in use, are secured in position by Ameans of suitablebrace rods 3,8. `Hinged to the respective ends of themattress retainer are the end members 9, 9, formed of suitable open-work, andV hinged tothe front sidefof said 'retainer is the front side member 10, also formed of open-work. The front side member is provided at each end with a latch 11, which engages with a corresponding catch 19., of the corresponding corner post, forming a part of the framework of the end members 9, 9. These latches hold the end members and the front side member against collapsing.
Vhen it is desired to collapse the crib and fold the same up, the latches l1, 11, are released, and the end members 9 are then folded inwardly on the mattress. 7The front side member is then folded over onto the end members and the mattress retainer is then swung around on its supports 4, 4, into a vertical position as shown in Fig. 3. However, before swinging the mattress retainer into vertical position, the upper ends of the brace rods 8 should be released to permit the hinged legs 7 to swing into vertical position alongside of said retainer, as shown in Fig. 3.
For the purpose of securing the crib in collapsed position, the lugs 13, 13, have been provided at the upper end of each leg l, each lug being provided with an orifice 14, through which a tying cord as 15, may be passed and said cord then passed around underneath the corresponding legs 7, and secured, as shown in Fig. 3.
What I claim is 1. A device of the character described including a pair of legs spaced apart, a fixed side member supported by said legs, an arm fixed at one end to each leg and projecting therefrom: a mattress retainer pivoted at one edge to the free ends of said arms and arranged underneath said side member, legs hinged to and supporting the other edge of said retainer, end members hinged to the respective ends of said retainer, a front side member hinged to the front side of said'retainer and means whereby the ends of said front side member may be interlocked with the corresponding end members.
2. A device of the character described including a pair of legs, spaced apart, a fixed side member supported by said legs, an arm attached at one end to each leg and projecting therefrom, said arms being arranged underneath said side member, a mattress retainer. pivoted at its respective ends to the free ends of said arms, legs hinged to and supporting said retainer, end members hinged to the respective ends of said retainer, a front side member hinged to the Jfront side of said retainer, said endrmembers and front side member being foldable upon the retainer, means whereby the ends of said front side member may be interlocked With the corresponding end members, lugs carried by the upper ends of the first mentioned legs, each lug being provided with an orifice, and tying cords passing through said oriices, and provided to be secured l5 around said retainer to secure the device in collapsed position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
