HEAD-REST.
T 0 all whom it may concern? Be it known-thatI, PERCY R v subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Antigonish,- in the Province of Nova Scotia, Dominion of'Canada, have'in' 'vented'a new and useful Head-Rest; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention suchas will enable others-skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.- i. r
The present invention relates to a head rest attachment for bedsteads, and has for its object to provide a device of this characterwhich embodies novelfeatures of construction whereby a back and head rest of any de invention consists in certain novel combina tions and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear asthe description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the'invention," referei lce'. is'to be had to the -following dc scription and accompanying(drawings, in
which Referring as drawings, which musk trate one possible embodiment of the invention, the reference character A designates the head of an ordinary bedstead, the frame thereof including the usual upper and lower horizontal bars 1. The head rest includes an upright supporting frame B which is rigidly clamped in position upon the head of the bed t ad and an inclin d fra e 0 wh h is SAUNDERS, a
cured to the headA e I 'difficulty. Figure 1 is a perspective View" of a head Specification oiietters fatent, Patenfefl A110; 13, 1918 A lication filedApi'il is, i918. Serial No. 229,238.
right frame B and adapted to support a pil we lowD at'any :desired inclination. The upright frame B may be formed of any suitable material and be of any desired shape. As illustrated upon the drawing it has a rectangular formation and includes vertical side bars 2, an upper cross bar 3, and a lower cross bare: The upper cross bar 3 is offset rearwardly at 3 and provided with a pair The middle portion' i of the lower cross bar 4: is also offset rearwardly', the offset arms including downwardly opening crimped portions 4 and straight portions 4. These crimped portions 4" form downwardly open-. 1
ing hooks which can be fitted over the lower cross bar 1 of the headA, while the straight portions 4 in connection with the sides of the crimps 4* provide upwardly facing hook members which are adapted to engage the lower cross bar 1 of the head A, as indicated a ofslots 5 which loosely receive the" stems of:
clamping hooks 6, said stems being threaded and having thumb nuts 7 mounted thereon.
on Fig. 1, VVith the arrangement indicated by'Fig. 1 the clamping hooks 6 extend upwardly from the supporting frame and engage the upper cross bar 1 of the head'A,
although with a differently designed bedstead it might be more'convenient to reverse the position of the clamping hooks ('3v and engage the-lower cross bar 1 of the head A'with the crimped portions 4 of the offset arms at the bottom'of the frame; In either in: stance the upright frame can be rigidly seof the bedstead without A cross bar 8 extends transversely across the upright frame B, being provided at the endsthereof with guides 9which are slidable 3 uponthe vertical sides-of the'upright frame.
Clamping screws 10 enable this crossbar 8 to be clamped rigidly in-any desired posi-- tion: The inclined pillow supporting frame C is 'shown'asha'v'ing a urshaped formation,
the ends-thereof'being pivotally connected to the cross bar 8. As shown upon the drawing the ends of th'efraine terminate in eyes 11 whi'cli pivotally engage the cross bar. A pillow clamping bar 12 is mounted upon the cross bar 8, the ends of the pillow clamping bar being extended downwardlyat 12 and one end being pivotally connected at 13 to the cross bar, while the other end is hooked at 14 so as to detachably engage the cross bar. A strip of fabric 15 91 the likfi Stretched maw by Fig. 1. The same results which ordinarily I require the use of several pillows can thus be accomplished with a single pillow, and the frame C can be quickly adjusted and set at any desired inclination, or moved upwardly into an out of the way position when not in use.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,,is
1. A head rest attachment for bedsteads, including an upright frame, means for rigidly securing the frame to the head of a bedstead, across bar adjustably mounted upon the upright frame, and an inclined pillow supporting frame pivotally connected at its upper end to the cross bar.
2. .A head rest attachment for bedsteads, including an upright frame, means for rigidly securing the upright frame to the 3. A head rest attachment for bedsteads,
including an upright frame, means for rigidly securing the frame to the head. of a bedstead, a cross bar adjustably mounted upon the upright frame, an inclined pillow supporting frame pivotally connected at its upper end to the cross bar,.and a transverse pillow clamping bar having the extremities thereof bent laterally, one ofthe laterally bent ends being pivotally connected tothe cross bar, while the other end is provided with latch means for detachably engaging the cross bar.
4:. A head rest attachment forbedsteads, including an upright frame, means for rigidly securing the frame to the head of a bedstead, a cross bar adjustably mounted upon the upright frame, a U-shaped pillow supporting frame having the ends of the arms thereof pivotally connected to the cross bar, fabric stretched across the U -shaped Copies of this patent may be obtained for Having thus described the invention, what frame, and a transverse pillow clamping bar having the extremities thereof bent laterally,
one of the said laterally bentends being pivotally connected to the cross bar, while the other end is provided with latch means for detachably engaging the cross bar.
5. A head rest attachment for bedsteads, including an upright frame provided at one end with hooked portions, clamping hooks at the opposite end of the frame for cooperation with the said hooked portions to rigidly secure the frameto thehead of a bedstead, a cross bar adjustable upon the upright frame, and an inclined pillow supporting.
frame pivotally connected at one end to the cross bar. V
6. A head rest attachment for bedsteads, including an upright frame havingone end thereof provided with oppositely facing hooked portions, while the other end is provided with reversible clampinghooks adapted to be'positioned for cooperation with one of the, said hooked portions to engage the head of the bedstead and rigidly secure the frame in position, a cross bar adjustable upon the upright frame, an an inclined pillow supporting frame pivotally connected at one end to the cross bar.
7. 'A head rest attachment for bedsteads, including an upright rectangular frame, one
endqof which is offset rearwardly and a.
erate, with either of the before mentioned hook members to engage the head of the bedstead, clamping nuts threaded on the stems of the clamping screws, a cross bar adjustable uponthe vupright frame, and an inclined pillow supporting frame pivotally connected to the cross bar. A
In testimony whereof I have signed name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
