ERWINMAURER, or JAMAIC.A,'1\TEW YORK.
'i3-Booman.. Y,
Be it known that I, EnwiN MAURER, a citizen of the United; States, residing at Jamaica, Long Island, in Athe coiuity of Queens and State yof New York, havein- 1vented certain new and usefullmprovement's which-the following is a `full, rj
clear,`and eXact specification.-` This invention relates-to broeders, and 'has for one of itsobje'cts'to produce a broeder1 which may befeasily knocked down for stor- K A p the lower .Part 4. beine. .eoeneeted'f LQ .the 11 ing or transportation.
Another' object is to provide a :broeder composed of detachable parts held together without bolts o'rother "permanent fastening means. further object is tiyprovicle a;4 sectional brooder'which may be extended at u will by the use of additional sections to produce a brooder of any desired capacity.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
The invention will be first hereinafter' described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification, and then more specifically defined inthe claims at vthe end of the description.
similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding Vparts throughout the several views:- y
Figure l is a central longitudinal vertical section through a broeder constructed substantially in accordance with this invention, on the line I-,I of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the brooder.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line lll-III of Fig. 1,
Fig. is a detailed view of the partition, and
Fig. 5 is a broken side elevation of the adjacent end portions of two broeder sections of the type shown in the other figures, illustrating how they may be connected with a single heating device.
The side walls and top of the brooder are formed by a curved member 1 which is preferably made in sections, each of which eX- tends from side to side and from one end piece 3 to a partition 8. Along one edge of each cover section l'there is a continuous depending rib 2 adapted to fit into a corresponding groove 5 in the edge of the end piece 3, while along the other edge of said cover section a similar depending rib 11 is carried for engagement with one of a pair nu Y Ap'piicauon ineal muys, 1917'. serial no. 173,355. f

Pa'ssages' for branches 17 are formed at 12 1n the partition 8 `by cuttingv in from the lower edge thereof to provide doorways 13- allowing communication 'from one side of the partition tothe other, and'leaving flaps l5 separated by a'slot 16 vbetween said doorways and passages'12. Said Haps 15 may be bentout of the way when the branches 17 of the heating pipe are to be inserted into the passages 12 or removed therefrom, and when the pipe isin position said flaps are in the positionv shown in Fig. 4 in which they support the pipe at the same level with the passages 19 in the end pieces. Doors 14 may be used for closing the doorways 13. The partition is further provided with a plurality of openings 441 permitting heat to pass freely from one side-to the other, so
that a single thermostat 311 mounted in one fluid fuel from a'tank 25 and housed in a casing 22 having air inlet openings 23. The
heat from the burner passes to the pipe 18 through an elbow 26 which is hinged at 27 to said pipe, so that it may be swung upward when it is necessary to light or extinguish thebnrner. The opposite end of'the pipe 18 is closed by a cap. 2O preferably having a small opening 21` therein to allow.
the dead heat to escape.
Two brooders may be heated from a single burner 89, as illustrated in Fig. 5, by substituting for theelhoiv. 2G of Fig. l, annpright pipe 36 having oppositely extending branches 35 connected to the pipes 17 of the two broeders. casing 'provided' with air inlet openings 3S, andthe pipe 86' has an opening 42 adapted'to be-closed by a door i-3, vvhereby.4
