Description
FRIEDRICH T. EBBACH, 0F SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN.
LINE-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 v Patented Afig. 6, 1918.
Application filed September 20, 1916. Serial No. 121,266.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDRICH '1. ERBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at' Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Line- Fasteners, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates broadly to fasteners Y and more particularly has reference to a line fastener.
As the primary object, it is contemplated by the invention to provide a rigid jaw on the body and to slidably mount another jaw on the body for cooperation with the rigid in such a manner that when the lever is actuated the movable jaw will be adjusted to either a closed or open position.
It is a more specific object of this invention to provide a movable jaw with a trans verse recess for receiving the inner end of the cam lever; and to provide the under surface of the movable jaw with a longitudinal groove for receiving a rib on the body whereby the movable jaw will be guided during its movement.
A still further object of my inyention resides in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, efficient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily'understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part oft-his specification.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan of my invention showing the jaws in an open position.
Fig. 2 is a top plan showing the jaws in a closed position, the cam lever being shown in longitudinal section,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, the jaws being shown in an open position, and
Fig. i is a transverse section taken on line 4.4 of Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like and corresponding parts also formed integral with the upper sur' face of the body and is arranged in spaced relation with the rigid j aw.
In order to clamp a line such as indicated by the numeral 4 I have provided another jaw 5, formed of the same material as the jaw The jaw 5 however is shorter than the aw2' and is only about half as thick as the jaw 2 ,the under surface of the jaw v5 being provided-with a longitudinal groove 6 which is adapted to receive rib 3 which latter 1 guides the sliding movement thereof. As is apparent from Fig. 3 of the drawings the outer faces of the jaws lie in approximately the same plane. For the purpose of adjusting the movable jaw I have provided the outer face thereof with a transverse recess 7 which communicates with the groove 6 and incidentally provides a longitudinal slot 8 in the movable jaw.
A lever 9 has a cam 10 integral with the inner end thereof, the cam being of a length slightly shorter than the width of the transverse recess 7 so that it can be received within the recess. An elongated screw bolt 11 is engaged in the lever adjacent the extreme inner end thereof and passed through the slot 8 being finally engaged in the body 1, serving to pivotally connect the lever to the body. I
The operation of this invention is as follows:
Assuming that the parts have been assembled as described and it is desired to clamp or fasten the line 4, the line is placed in engagement with the rigid jaw 2 whereupon the handle lever 9 is engaged and rotated in a half circle causing the outer end of the cam to engage the inner wall of the recess 7 and force the movable jaw 5 toward the rigid jaw 1 so that the jaws will cooperate with each other and frictionally engage the line 4:- A release of the line is readily obtained by swinging the lever in an opposite direction so as to consequently slide the movable jaw 5 away from the rigid aw 2.
Froin the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it can easily be seen that I have provide a device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost. 7
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings oomprehend only the general embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made Within the scope of the appended claims and Without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fully described my inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l A line fastener which comprises a body having a rigid aw thereon, another aw formed as a frame slidable on the body provided with an open recess and a slot, a cam lever arranged in the recess, and means passing through the slot for pivotally connecting the lever to the body, said lever be ing adapted to move the slidable jaw and frame to adjust the jaw relative to the rigid jaw.
2. A line fastener including a relatively flat body, a rigid jaw formed on one end thereof, a rib arranged longitudinally on the body and in spaced relation with the jaw, another jaw provided with a longitudinal groove for receiving the rib, the rib guiding the sliding movement of the jaw, the movable jaw being also provided with a transverse recess on its opposite face which communicates with the groove and thereby provides a longitudinal slot therein, a handle lever, a cam integral with the inner end of the lever and arranged in the transverse recess, and means passing through the extreme inner end of the lever as well as the slot and engaged in the body to permit of swinging movement being imparted to the lever to consequently cause the cam toadjust the movable jaw With respect to the rigid aw.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
