UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICEv EARL HENRY IBEKKERING, 0F DULUTH, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR TO DULUTH SHOW CASE COMPANY, OF DULUTH, MI1\TNESOTA, A CORPORATION OF MINNESOTA.
DISPLAY-DRAWER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1918.
Application filed March 26,1917. Serial No. 157,514.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL HENRY BEKKnR- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inDisplay- Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a display drawer for counters, shelving and the like and has for its object the provision of a drawer having a compartment at one end, one side of said compartment being transparent to display the contents thereof and said compartment remaining filled at all times regardless of the quantity of the material displayed actually contained in the drawer.
Further objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent as it is better understood by reference to the following specification when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a drawer embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through the display end of the drawer, and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the display end of the drawer.
Referring to the drawing, the drawer is illustrated as comprising a rectangular container consisting of a bottom 5, sides 6, a rear end 7 and the display end 8. The bottom and sides are preferably of metal, the end 7 being constructed of wood as is also the frame of the display end 8. Obviously, however, various materials may be employed in constructing the drawer without departing from the invention.
The display end consists of a frame constructed of vertical and horizontal members 8 and 9, respectively, arranged about a central opening. The members 8 and 9 are rabbeted to form shoulders 10 against which the transparent wall 11, preferably of glass, rests. Fastening members 12 are secured to the vertical members 8 behind the transparent wall 11 to secure the latter in position and are provided with grooves 13 spaced from the transparent wall 11 to slidably receive the rear wall 14 of the display compartment which is preferably constructed of metal. The grooves 13 are preferably arranged angularly with respect to the transparent wall 11 so that the rear wall 14: of the display compartment slopes upwardly and outwardly, permitting more ready access to the material within the display compartment. A groove 15 is provided in the rearwardly extending portion 16 of the bottom member 9 to receive the bottom edge of the rear wall 14..
My invention is particularly adapted for use in grocers counters and shelving where it is desirable to display samples of materials on sale such for example as rice, barley, dried fruits, etc., without subjecting the goods to contamination or to handling by customers. The bulk of the material is placed in the drawer where it is readily accessible when required and the display compartment is filled so that the goods may be readily examined by customers but are protected at all times. Inasmuch as a separate display compartment is provided the compartment remains filled regardless of the quantity of the material actually contained within the drawer. By the use of my invention the merchant is enabled to display materials on sale in an attractive manner. The invention is not limited to use in displaying materials of the kind specified nor to use alone in grocers counters, since it is adapted to display a wide variety of materials offered for sale in bulk. V
It will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention or sacrificing any of the material advancages-thereof, the form hereinbefore described being merely the preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
A display drawer comprising a rectangular container, one end of said container being constructed of top, bottom and end members arranged about a central opening and rabbeted to provide shoulders, a transparent wall resting against said shoulders, fastening strips secured to said end members to rigidly hold said transparent wall, said strips having grooves on their inner faces partlnent ofen at its top and adapted to spaced from szud transparent wall, and a receive goo s to be dlsplayed.
