To all 'u'fiom it may ('onrm'n:
Be it known that 1, MILES H. MANN, a citizen of tho United States, residing at. 'lt-rre Ilante, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana. havev invented certain new and. useful ltnproveim-nls in Register Attachments, of which the following is a specificat ion.
This invention comprises aregistering attachment for money paying machines.
The invention relates to money paying ina chines of the type wherein suitable coin holders arc used with an associated system of ejector-s, the latter controlled by selecting mechanism and there being a keyboard or equivalent means the keys of which control the operation'of the ejector-s so that a selected sum of money may be paid out of the machine by discharging from the. holders dill'erent. dcnominatlons of coin going to make up said selected sum.
It has been proposed in the art of money handling and registering machines, preferably for the purpose of making up payrolls, to utilize a suitable selective mechanism by which to control a plurality of unit registers one or more of which are. operable to register the required Illlllll)(! 1 0f coins of ditfcrcnt denominations, necessary to make up a certain sum of money set u on the As ty hail of this type 0 machine 7 56') Gril'l'en Patent Number, 979,391, issued December 20, 1910.

The money handling and registering machine illustrated in'the drawings is of the type-shown in the application of \Vhitc, ()vcrlin and Bullington, Serial Number 7023M filed June 7, 1912, and comprises the registering section A and the money paying section B. Th3 registering section A embodies a keyboard including the amount keys 29 depressible so as to engage lugs 28 on selectors 20. There is provided a series of selectors 20 for each row of keys 29 and depression of a key is capable of depressing hand end portions of one or more selectors 20 according to the value designation of the particular key. The selectors 20 are provided with lu 21 adapted to engage ejector bails 22, see igs. 1 and 7, so that a longitudinal rightward movement imparted to a selector 20 will tilt or cause pivotal movement of a bail or bails 22. The selector 20 may have onelu '21 onl ,"m which event the right a single bail 22 will be tilted, whereas if" ssociated bail 22 to be engaged with a notch.

1 my locking means of'con'ventional type for the?purpose.-" A- de ression of one or more he s29 correspon ingly depresses certain itembars 20 to engage the hooks 48 of ore being provided v 40 on the shaft 39,
the right hand ends of theapparent that by depressing no part of this the latter with the bail 41.. Now if the lien dle E8 is pulled forward the coiiperation of the am 49 with the lever 42 rocks the bail 47 to the right, see Fig. 1. By this action the bars 20 selected by the depressed keys 29 are likewise pulled to the right and thereby actuate certain ejector bails 22 movmg certain ejectors 3 into positions with their projections 31 interlocked with adjacent e ector urlns 11. The foregoing positioning of selected ejectors 3 takes place during the initial movement forward of the handle 3Sand said operation is independent 'of the movement of the shaft 12 because the stud 66 plays loosely in the hook 64011 the arm 65, see Fig. 8. Just as'the ejectors 3 have been positioned, however, the stud 66 is engaged by the inner end of the hook 64c and thereupon the r-coking of the shaft 12' takes place, carrying its arms 11 forward and moving the selected ejectors 3 in paths intersecting the bottom portions of the coin holders C to discharge from the said holders- .coiiis making up the amount of money solectcd to be ejected from the machine.
The register cttachmem.
The attachment of this invention isshowii best in Figs. 2 toli inclusive of the drawings. It comprises a register casing 100 in the ends of which is mounted-a register shaft 101. The register casing a downwardly extending front plate 102 and said front plate carries a plurality of casing extensions 103 seen best in Fig. 2; There is provided one of these casing extensions 103 for each coin receptacle C of the coin magazine and said casing extensions are adapted to project into the said coin holders until the rear walls of theextensions are substantially in contact with the rear. walls of the holders. I
Mounted on the shaft 101 are a. plurality of registers, best seen in Fig. 3, each reg istcr consisting of a plurality of registerin wheels 104 such as customarily employ l llltl'iel'lnolfl each-register includes an actu ating disk 105 haviii the toothed portion 106. There is provi ed between the disk 105 and the units wheel of theregistersuitable awl and ratchet mechanism 'such that a registering movement imparted to the disk 105 will be transmitted to the units regis. terin wheel 104.
provided between the registering wheels suitable carry-over or transfer mechanism of any conventional class for the purposes for w ich such mechanism is cominonly em-- ployed.
Anactiiating mechanism is utilized for each register and is the mechanism inelosed by each casing extension-103. Said mecha: nism includes primarily apair'of leverslOT and 108, the upper lever 107 having a sector 109 the teeth of which mesh with the toothed 100 is formed with t In like manner-"there is portion 106 of the disk 105. At its lower end the lever 108 is formed with a lateral lug 108 disposed in the path of movement of the ejector 3 with which the particular register is to cooperate when the register attachment has been placed in position on the coin magazine. It will be apparent that when the ejector 3 moves outward in its ejecting movement as shown in Fig. 2, said ejector will impart pivotal movement to the lever 108 and said movement is transmitted to the lever 107 and causes the prescribed movement of the disk 105 to actuate the associated register. T has every time an ejector 3 is selected and operated a register, arranged and intended to register the move ment of said ejector, is operated.
Owing to the peculiar selecting and ejector system of the money machine the predetermined sum of money set up on 'the keyboard of the machine by depressing the keys may, by the registers described, be divided into denominations of coins going to make up said sum of money, assnmingjhat the registers employed are unit registers and count one by one each coin or denomination of money, the registration or the ejection of which is controlled by a member 3 when the machine is used for money paying.
A suitable knob or handle 101 on the shaft 101, normally locked by any desired means, is used to restore or zeroize the wheels 104.
'It is to be understood that the coins ordinarily received by the holders C after use of the machine as a money paying machine, are removed-when the register attachment hereinbefore described is to be used. To facilitate quick application and detachment of said register attachment it is contemplated to provide hook plates 111 at the lower ends of the outermost casing extensions 103, said hook plates being adapted to engage over studs provided on the sides of the coin magaziiie 111', the latter receiving at its upper portion the lower-ends of the various casingextensions 103. 'lhe members 111 establish an interlocking connection between the lower portion of the register attachment, and a similar connection between the upper portion of the attachment and the coin magazine is provided as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. As seen in these figures a plate 113 is secured to each outermost casing e.\'- tension 103 and a plate 111 is attached to the inner face of each lifting horn 115 of the coin magazine 110 in which the holders 0 are provided. Locking arms 117 are carried by a shaft. 118 supported in the register casing 100 and one of the arms has a finger piece. 119. Springs 120 hold the arms 117 in positions in which their lower ends engage or interlock in notches formed in the plates 114. Obviously by pressing rearward the finger piece 119 the arms 11? will be littcd out of engagement with respect to the parts 114 and thereupon the whole l'cgister attachment may be removed bodily from the magazine 110. The magazine 11G itself is supported dctachably in position by snitable means whereupon it may be bodily rcmoved either with or independently of the register attachment, this usually being done by grasping the lifting horns 115 after unlocking the magazine. by means forming no part of the present improvements.
I do not wish to be limited to the specific form of registers illustrated heroin, nor to the specific operating means employed for each register since this means may be modi tied at will. The primary feature of this invention consists in the employment of a register attachment capable of being placed upon the coin magazine of the paying machine and movable into and out of positions in which the register operating devices coact or are not cooperatively associated with respect to the cjectors, respectively.
A cover plate 102 may extend over all of the casing extensions 102, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2.
