Be it known that we, ALEXANDER GiETAN- ix'Ei: and ROBERT H. MILLER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Ash-Con veyer System, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appeitains to make and use the same, refer'- ence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. f
Our invention relates to an` ash conveyor system and has for its principal object the production of a systemwhi'ch may be used to eliiciently convey ashes for a considerable distance. f i
Our invention also consists of certain novel details of constructiomlallV of which will be described in the specification and pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

This vertical portion 10 is secured by any suitable fastening means llto the wall 12.V An opening 13 is formed Yin the wall 12 through which passes the upper elbow 14 from which the conveyor leads to any suitable discharge point.A This elbow 14 is provided with one of the main injector jets supplied by a steam pipe 15. The construction of the elbow 14, is like thatshown in the application' of leXandeiGiij'tamier, Serial No.Y 21,548, liled April 15, 1915, and need not be described inthepresent application. The lower portion ofV the vertical part l0 of the'conduit is preferably supported by uprights 16 engaging with a collai'v 17 surrounding the conduit.
The lower end of the portionl is connected with the vhorizontal portion ofV the conduit by an elbow 18. This elbow 18 is shown in detail in Fig. l ofthe drawings.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Itqconsists of an inner Vcurved portion' 19, a Iback 20 and abottom 21.` The back 2O and bottoni 2l are substantially straight and are secured to the portion 19'by'means of lugs 22 through which pass lbolts 23 (see inbefore stated, it has on its innersurface an inclined guiding face 29 for delivering ashes tothe steam jet'at an angle. The face ofthe wear plate 26 is also .preferably in clined, as shownin the drawings, to assist in guiding the ashes into the l conduitv 10.
The elbow 18 connects the vertical part 10 of the conduit with the horizontal part which consists of a portion 30, preferably of j the saine diameter" as the part 10, and apor- -tion'31 which is of less diameter than lthe said part 30. These baille 4plates 34 are arranged alongY thev upper side of the large portion 30v of the conveyer at approximately regula-r in- Y tervals. These baille plates Si being removable, are readily replaced in case they become worn.
In order to assist the main injector jetsA i5 and 24, it is sometimes necessary to provide oneor more booster jets in the hori-l zontal portion of the pipe. One such booster jet is shown at 35. This jet is set into a. portion of the conveyor' 30" so as to be removable and is secured in position by bolts 86. It is supplied with steam by a steam pipe 37. This jet enters the horizontal portion of the conveyor' from the lower side so that itsV action is to tend to litt any ashes whichv deposit in the bottom of the conveyor and thus assist the baffle plates 3i in preventing this deposit of fine ashes on the bottom of the conveyer.
The operation of our conveyer will loe obvious. Steam is admitted through the pipes l5, 25 and 37 and the ashes are admitted through the hoppers 32. The elbow 18 can be readily renewed in its back and bottom parts if the same become worn and the wear plate 26 which receives the greatest amount voil" Wear from the ashes is also readily renewable. The baflie plates 3l, while they reduce the area of the pipe at certain points, do not add materially to the friction between thesteam and ashes and the pipe so that the friction in the large pipe 30 is substantially the same as though the baffle plates were not present and, at the same time, the baliie plates keep the fine ashes in suspension in this portion of the pipe.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent of the United States is :V
l. In an ash conveyer system the combination with a horizontally arranged conduit provided with spacedv inlet openings, of means for creating a flow of fluid therethrough, and means arranged at intervals in saidconduit between said inletl openings and at positions where the flow of fluid through said conduit would otherwise be substantially uniform for successively deflecting the iiuid toward the bottom of said conduit comprising a plurality of spaced bafl'les projecting downwardly into said conduit and inclined in the direction of flow of said fluid.
2. In an ash conveyer system the combination with a horizontally arranged conduit.
provided with spaced inlet openings, of means for creating a flow of fluid therethrough, and means arranged at intervals inY said conduit between said inlet openings and at positions where the How of fluid through said conduit would otherwise be substantially uniform for successively defleeting the fluid toward the bottom of said conduit comprising a plurality ot.' spaced baffles projecting downwardly into said conduit.
3. In an ash conveyer system` the combina:- tion with a horizontally arranged conduit provided with spaced inlet openings, of means for creating a flow of fluid therethrough, and means arranged at intervals in said conduit between said inlet openings and at` positions where the liow of fluid through saidconduit would otherwise be substantially uniform for successively deflecting the fluid toward the bottom of said conduit.
4. In an ash conveyer system the combination with a horizontally arranged conduit provided with spaced inlet openings, of
means for creating a liow of fluid therethrough, and means arranged in said conduit at a position between said inlet openings where the flow of fluid through said conduit would otherwise be substantially uniform for deliecting the fluid toward the bottom of said conduit.
5. In an ash conveyer system the combination with a horizontally arranged conduit, of meansV forrcreating a iiow of fluid therethrough, means arranged in said conduit at a position where the flow of fluid through said conduit would otherwise be substantially uniform for deflecting the fluid toward the bottom of said conduit comprisinga baffle plate., and means co-acting with said baffle plate comprising an injector nozzle extending through the bottom of said conduit and discharging against the inclined face of said battle.
