UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST BITTER SCI-IIKICH VON VELLEBIT, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
EJECTOR FOR THE SMOKING GASES OF BLAST-FURNACES AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26,1913.
Application filed March 5, 1912. Serial No. 681,816.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST BITTER SCHI- KICH VON VELLEBIT, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and resident of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ejectors for the Smoking Gases of Blast- Furnaces and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved ejector for the smoking gases of blast furnaces and the like, which is shown on the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section through the same, while Fig. 2 is a section on the line A-B of Fig. 1.
The ejector comprises a tunnel-shaped sleeve 70, which at one side of its fiat top end is connected at 2' with the exhaust pipe leading the gases into the same. At the top and bottom the sleeve is provided with a central opening m and a respectively. Into the upper opening a nozzle 0 and into the latter a pressure-water supply pipe Z is screwed. The nozzle is narrowed toward the interior of the sleeve like a funnel and carries in the middle a core 2), which is pointed toward the pipe Z and designed to disperse the water before its escape from the nozzle. The core 10 is fixed to the walls of the nozzle by radial webs g, 9 g whereby the escape-openings r, r, r are formed Said webs serve also for the dispersion of water and possess at the top the cross-section shown on the left half of Fig. 2 and at the bottom the cross-section shown on the right half of said figure. The radial webs possess, as shown on the drawing, ribs 8, s 8 which extend from the top to the bottom of same and which serve also for the dispersion of water.
The whole construction of the nozzle has the object to narrow the passage of the water, so that the water escapes from the nozzle at very high speed and ejects therefore the gases arriving at 2' through the outlet n with great vehemency.
I claim:
An ejector for the smoking gases of blastfurnaces and the like, comprising in combination a funnel-shaped sleeve with fiat top end and a lateral branch therein for connection with an exhaust pipe and provided at the top and bottom with a central opening, a nozzle in the upper opening narrowed toward the interior of the sleeve like a funnel, a pressure-water supply pipe connected with the outer end of said nozzle, a core in the middle of said nozzle having a pointed end directed toward said pipe, and ribbed radial webs to fix said core to the walls of the nozzle, all for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ERNST BITTER SCHIKIGH VON VELLEBIT.
