Our invention relates to improvements in nozzles, particularly to nozzles for discharging a mixture of sand and air under pressure from a conduit.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a nozzle of simple construction by means of which sand and air, from a mixture thereof, will be discharged separate y from a conduit with which the nozzle con'nnunicates.

At the discharge end of a hose or conduit 17 there is provided a nozzle 18 which is constructed that as the stream of mixed air and sand reaches it, the cross-sectional area of the stream is changed, the sand particles brought close together to form a comparatively solid sand jet, and the compressed or high velocity air which is separated "from the sand is permitted to escape laterally rather than being delivered into the mold with the sand. This nozzle includes a substantially cylindrical portion which is connected to the hose, and a pair of oppositely disposed, substantially flat walls 19, flaring laterally and converging to the extremity of the nozzle. Along substantially the full length of these Walls there are oppositely disposed air outlet openings or slots 20 between the spaced edges of the walls. As the stream of mixed sand and air enters between the walls, inertia of the sand which tends to cause it to continue moving in the same straight line, brings substantially all of the sand into a substantially solid jet emerging from between the ends of the two walls, while the air which is thus forced out from bet? .en the sand particles and which may more easily change its direction of flow, escapes laterally through slots or air discharge openings 20. Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A nozzle for discharging a mixture of sand and air, said nozzle having a tcrmi outlet for the sand and opposite lateral outlets for the air.
2. A nozzle for discharging a mixture of sand and air from a conduit, said nozzle having a terminal sand outlet of narrower trans verse dimension than the diameter of the conduit, and also having a lateral outlet for the escape of air from the sand stream.
3. A nozzle for discharging a mixture of sand and air from a conduit, said nozzle having a terminal portion including a wall at an angle to the axis of the end portion oi the conduit and in the path of movement of the sand, and also having openings extending along substantially the full length of said wall for permitting lateral escape oi the air in opposite directions from the sand moving along said wall.
4. A sand and air discharge nozzle having a pair of converging laterally flaring walls spaced apart along opposite edges to provide air escape outlets.
5. A nozzle for delivering a high velocity substantially solid sand jet, including a cylindrical portion for the delivery of a mixture of high velocity air and sand, and a pair of converging walls spaced apart at their ends to form a restricted outlet for the sand and spaced apart along their opposite edges to permit lateral escape of air from the sand In testimony whereof we ailix our signa-
