ERNEST WILLIAMS, 0F NEW YORK, 1l'. Y.
SOOT AND SCALE EJECTOR.
To all whom it maygconcevn:
Be it known that LERNEST WILLIAMS, a
New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented cer#` tain new and useful Soot and Scale Ejectors, of which the following is aspecifiation. 1
My invention relates to the improvement, in the apparat-us for the removal of soot and scale accumulating in the soot settling or combustion chamberof steamv .generating boilers.
Theobject of my inventionis to"discharge the soot and stale, directly into the ash pit of thev boiler, wetting it downffduring the process lof transmission, so that it wlll be 1n a state` to permit its removal'with the ashes, thus eliminating the dust stirred up by the removal by hand and saving a large amount of .labor and haulage in accomplishing the same object. I obtain these results bythe apparatus illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1,`is a vertical section through a steam generating boiler Ashowing the relative position of the ejector. Fig. 2, is a vertical section through the soot ejector.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the same views.
A is the chamber where the soot and scale accumulate.
B is the ash pit into which the ashes are dumped from the grate and fire box above and into which the sootand scale are discharged.
C is a funnel shaped collector for leading the soot and scale into the ejector.
D is a sliding damper for the regulation of material entering the ejector.
E is the suction chamber of the ej ector.
F is the jetting device carrying the suction producing element. l
- Gr is the discharge chamber. j
H is the spray chamber supplying the spray openings.
I is one of the various spray openings emanating from the spray chamber for the wetting down of material before discharging into ash pit B.7
Sp ecication of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4., 1916.
Application filed May 27, 1913. lSerial No. 770,273.
. J is the pipe for transmission of the spraying element to' spray chamber.
K 'is lthe pedestal for the support of ejector below D i i L is a handhole cap for the removal of F and-the clearing out of E and G.
The soot which accumulates inthe chamber A is in a powdery state and very 4light in weight and its removal by hand is laborious and detrimental to the general health :ofpersons removingsame, due to its being inhaled and drifting into the exposed natural cavities of the body.
The action of the lejector ,is as follows:
The soot and other refuse material accumulatesv in the chamber A, also filling the collector C. The Valve controlling the suction producing element flowing in the pipe F is opened and a partial vacuum produced in the suction chamber E The valve` controlling the admission of: the spraying element to the spray chamber s I-I is now opened. The damper D is opened and the material from chute C and chamber A admitted to the suction chamber E from which it is' drawn into the discharge chamber G being. sprayedv in .its transmission and delivered ina plastic form into the ash pit 13.
I claim:
1. In a soot and refuse removal unit an ejector or conveyer tube having a single discharge orilice, together with an inlet hopper at the suction end, said inlet hopper being directly connected through a damper to the conveyer tube, a single steam or compressed air jetting device located between -the damper and thejdischarge orifice, said jetting device having a single outlet orifice and'being rigidly connected to a removable plate, which plate is fastened to the exterior of the ejector tube, a plurality of water sprayj nozzles set adjacent to the discharge orifice of the conveyer tube and extending from the interior of the conveyer tube to a tion of the exterior of the conveyer tube; together with the controlling means substantially as shown, for the purposes as specified.
' chamber of annular form, encircling a por- 2. In a soot and refuse removal unit a conveyer tube having a 'singlevjetting device,
which plate seals opening in the vconveyer' tube, said plate having lug for pipe connec- O tion to same; together with the controlling means substantially as shown, for the purposes as specified.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York this 24th day of May A. D. 1913.
ERNEST WILLIAMS. l/Vitnesses:
