ELECTRIC COUNTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
racemes July 3c, 1918.
(Application filed. Batch 7, 1917, Serial Ho. 153,159. Renewed December 20, 1917. Serial No. 208,147.
I To all whom it may concern:
' sac, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Jersey City, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements 111E186- tric Counters, of which the following is a and 1s retained normally in the position specification.
My invention relates to electric counters, and has for its object to provide a novel manner of mounting the armature of the magnet which is energized to impart the electric counting impulse, whereby said impulse will be imparted to the counting mechanism. positively and with a minimum of current. 4
This object I accomplish 1n the manner and by the means hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my 1mproved device shown associated with a'conventional counter Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same'..
responding parts in the two views.
In the said drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes a base plate having upturned ends 2, to which the core-piece 3 of the magnet is screwed or otherwise attached.
Said core-piece 3 is provided with a wind-- ing 4 of fine insulated wire, the terminals 5 of which are to be connected with any suitable source of electrical power and mechanism whereby intermittent electrical impulses will be imparted thereto. Said core-piece projects from both ends of the winding 1,.thus providing a pole at each end thereof. y Mounted pivotally at 6 in brackets 6 fixed to the base-plate 1 are the longitudinal bars 7 of a rectangular armature frame,
' the cross-bars 8 of which form armatures at the opposite ends of the magnet, the bar 8 at one end being disposed beneaththe pole-piece 3, while the bar 8 at the other end is disposed above said pole-piece. One
of the longitudinal bars 7. is extended at 9.
Similar numerals of reference denote corl settmg the counting mechanism for the being provided with the usual resetting hand-wheel 16, as shown.
The operation of my improved device is as follows :'-The frame, composed of the longitudinal bars 7 and the cross armatures 8, which is pivoted intermediate its length at 6, is adapted to rock freely on said pivot,
press the end nearest the counter 15, thereby rocking the lever 13 and. imparting a counting impulse to the counting mechanism in the usual manner. When the magnet is deenergized the frame instantly will assume its normal position shown in Fig. 1, re-
next impulse.
The primary advantage of this construction is that the armatures are pivoted with respect to the magnet so that they are substantially counterbalanced, and a very light electrical impulse imparted to the magnet will cause an operation of the mechanism. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- M In a device of the class described, a magnet having a pole'at each end of its winding, an armature, frame comprising longitu- 'dinal bars and pivoted intermediate its length and inclosing saidmagnet, and an armature at each end of said bars adapted to be attracted by one of said magnet poles,
one of said bars being formed into a slotted extension at one end, in combination with mechanism to be operated, and a lever connected with said mechanism to operate the same and also connected with the slotted extension of said armature frame to be vibrated thereby.
Signed at the city of 'New York in the county and State of New York, this 22nd day of February, A. D. 1917 CLARENCE N. CAHUSAC.
