Description

Patented May 5, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE HEKTOR BRODT, OF ZUCHWIL, NEAR SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR TO SGIN'IILLA AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND REVERSING SWITCH Application filed February 20, 1929, Serial No. 341,526, and in Germany March 1, 1928.
The switches hitherto used for reversing the direction of the current in electric installations have the disadvantage that the connections ot the leads are movable. This disadvantage is overcome according to the invention by the contacts for the incoming current being located between the contacts for the outgoing current and the switch member being U-shaped and resilient and embracing the contacts for the incoming current on two sides by means of conductively connected contact pieces, the switch member, when reversing, lifting one contact piece of" the contact for the incoming current and bringing it into contact with the contact for the outgoing current, while the other Contact piece remains in contact with the contact for the incoming current.
In the accompanying drawing an electromagnetic reversing switch is shown as a con s ructional example diagrammatically in 1, Fig. 2 being a diagram of connections for the reversing switch.
A and B are the contacts for the incoming current, which are arranged between the contacts C, D and E, F for the outgoing current in parallel planes with respect to one an other. S is the switch member which is actuated by the double magnet R and the resilient contact pieces H, J and G, K of which rest on either side against the contacts A and B for the incoming current. The contact pieces are conductively connected together and are fixed to the switch member which is provided with two armatures N, 0 so as to be insulated from the same.
On the coil L of the magnet being ener gized, it attracts the armature N and the contact pieces H, G are pressed against the contacts C, D for the outgoing current, while the contact pieces J, K remain in'contact with the contacts for the incoming current. A current thus flows from A over J, H, G the terminal P, the consumer T, the terminal Q,
and contacts D, G, K to B. When the direction of the current is to be reversed, the coil M of the magnet R is energized, which attracts its armature O and moves the contact pieces E J, K against the contacts E, F for the outgoing current while the contact pleces H, G
remains connected to the contacts A, B for the incoming current. The current then flows in the opposite direction to the previous direction through the consumer, viz. from A over H, J, E, terminal Q, consumer T, termi nal P and contacts F, K, G to B.
instead oi? performing a straight line motion the switch member may perform a rotary motion with respect to the contacts. Instead of being actuated electro-magnetically it may also be actuated mechanically or elcctro mechanically. The switch member may also be made with one arm only, in which ca e the contacts for the incoming and for the outgoing current must be suitably positioned below one another or next to one another.
What I claim is:
1. A switch for reversing the direction of the current in electric installations, including a pair of contacts for the incoming current, two pairs of contacts for the outgoing current, each of said first-named contacts being located between a pair of the said second named contacts and switching members comprising two pairs of resiliently mounted conductively connected contact pieces, one pair of said contact pieces embracing each of said first-named contacts, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A switch as claimed in claim 1 wherein the switching members are mounted symmetrically upon a two-armed lever.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
HEKTOR BRODT.
