Description

` i JGSEPHW. BRENKERT, 0F SAN DlfEG-O,
`"helianthe-Fountain.
Specification olfetters Patenti Appunti-tion ined may e, i917. serial iii-@frenata To all whom z'zfmag/ concern: i i
i Vie it knownfthat `I, losiirii W. BREN- iiiiirr, a citizen of thelUnited States,'r`esiding atSan Diego, `in the county of -`San Diego andi State'ofiGaliforni-a, have invented certaini new and useful 'Improvements in' Drinking-Fountains, of whichithe following is `a specification.
lizfy invention relates to drinking fountains usually used in public places for drinking purposes, and theiobjects offmy invention are: first, to provide a` drinking fountain of this class which `is highly sanitary,
the opening `being closed by g 'avity when the `water pressure is off, thus preventing dust and dirt from entering; second7 to provide a fountain of this class `in `whichthe quantity ofwvatermay be readily regulated seas Vto provide forrplaces where there is different waterpressure; third, to provide a fountain of this classfin iwhi'elrtlie ariiici Jal y Y l parts-of said fountain maybe readily taken apart and sterilized or cleansed; fourth, to
provide a ifountain 3 oftliis class which is ivery simple and 'economical ofi construction, durable, easy to operate, easytorepairandf` willn'otlreadily' deteriorate or get out of order.
Withf'these and otherV objectsfin view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of referente thereon which form a part of this specification in which:
Figure 1 is a top view of my drinking fountain. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view minus the control valve and showing parte in elevation to facilitate the illustration, and showing the fountain closed. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the fountain open and showing a control valve in the supply pipe line. Fig. l is a top View of the spider for regulating the movement of the regulating valve.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
rl`he cylindrical member l, sleeve 2, regulating valve 3, spider et, control valve 5 and supply pipe 6 constitute the principal parts of my drinking fountain.
The cylindrical member l is provided with a semi-spherical head provided with a fitisnugly therein is the sleeve 2\whi"ch lis provided with `beveled ends 2a and 2, the
beveled end 2n forming a seatforthe-regulating valve 3, and the beveled end 2l? serving asi-1a stop for the spider. 'llliis cylindrical -meinber l is 'threaded internally yat its open endfttt jlb of the supply pipe@ 'and be secured* thereon by saidtthread ll. This Lsupply pipef 'is provided atfany desirableplace inthe line adjacent the `fountain with a controllval've 5 which may be any conventional valve for controllingthe flowof water tosaid fountain. The regulating valve 3 is a tapered valve adapted to fitthe bevel 21`and :is of suitable diameter to permit a good supply of l* water to pass around the saine as shown iii Fig.l 3 ofthe drawings when itisraised up by pressure of the water as :shown in tig. 3. Itis provided with a stein lBtwhich extends down and through *the hole 2C' in the sleeife2, and it is threaded at its lower end,
and on this `threaded end is screwed the spider l-which is lprovided with a central n holed:L threaded to conform-to thefthread on the end of the valve stein 3'. rlhe upper 1 and outer endsllc of thearnis Il are" beveled conforming to the bevels 2b on the lower end of the sleeve 2 so that the spider may be screwed onto the valve stem 3a a suitable distance, and provides for adjustment of the movement of the valve 3 for regulating the quantity of water through the outlet of said drinking fountain in accordance with the water pressure.
rllhough l have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts, il do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the purview of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
lt is obvious that with this construction there is provided a drinking fountain in which the quantity of water may be readily regulated and adjusted, that when the pressure is closed by the control valve the regulat-ing valve will close the opening, preventing dirt, dust and other unsanitary things from entering said fountain, that when the pressure is on the valve is raised by the water pressure permitting the water to pass and mounted so as to adapted to "Fit on the `end rateiiiJ-eiiaaiyfea,tiara.
out in certain regulated quantities regulated by the position of the spider 4C on the valve' pipe upon Which the open end of said member is screwed, a sleeve ittedsnugly'in said cylindrical member provided With tapering ends, a valve adapted to seat on one of said tapering ends, a spider adjustably mounted on'the steml of said'valve adapted to rest against the other tapering end of said sleeve when said valve is in certain position, and a `control valve. in said supply. pipe whereby said valve WillA reciprocate 1n said sleeve With the opening and closing of said control valve. 4 Y Y 2. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a cylindrical member provided with a closed end and an open end and provided with a hole centrally in said closed end, a
'copies ofthis patent may be obtained for sleeveiitted into said cylindrical member, a valve seating von the upper end of said sleeve, and meansl for regulating the movement of said valve adjustably mounted on the stem thereof. j v p Y 3. Ina drinkingfountain, the combinaa closed end and an open end and provided with a hole centrally in said closed end, a sleeve fitted into said cylindrical member, a valve seating on the upper end of said sleeve, means for regulating the movement of said valve adjustably mounted on the stem thereof, and means ior controlling the flow ot Water to said valve.
4. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a moutlrengaging member provided with a hole in the one end thereof, a sleeve itted snugly in said mouth-engaging member provided with a beveled end forming a valve seat, a valve adapted to engage said seat, a valve stem extending from said valve through said sleeve, means adjustably mounted on the extended end of said valve stem adapted to regulate the movement of said valve relatively to said sleeve.
5. In a drinking fountain, the combination of a mouth-engaging member provided with a hole in the one end thereof, a sleeve fitted snugly in said mouth-engaging member provided with a beveled end forming a valve seat, a valve adapted to engage said seat, a valve stem extending from said valve through said sleeve, means adj ustably mounted on the extended end of said valve stem adapted to regulate the movement of said valve relatively to said sleeve, and means for controlling the Iiow of Water to said mouthengaging member.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this `25th day of'April, 1917. tion of alcylmdrical member provided with JOSEPH W. BRENKERT.
