Description

IVI. PELTO.
FIGUBE'T0Y.. APPLICATION FILED APR-1:3. 19H.
2 SHEETS-SHEET I.
Pateflted July 16, 1918.
MATT PELTO, or WARREN, 01110.
FIGURE TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July '16, 1918.
Application filed April 13, 1917. Serial No; 161,759.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MATT PELTO, a citizen of the United States, residing atWarren, in the county of Trumbull, in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in,
7 toys and more particularly to figure toys and tea class wherein means are employed for imparting life like movement to the figures to cause them to dance upon a plat-- form. With the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my toy, partly in section to afford a better illustration.
Fig, 2 is a view taken on line 22 of Fig.1.
.Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a box or housing having the base-2 and platforms 3, 4:. Within the housing 1 I provide a spring motor 5 arranged upon a suitable support 6 carried by the base 1 and said motor is arranged to drive ,a vertical shaft .7 within said support, said shaft 7 carrying and driving the large horizontally disposed gear 8 which is in mesh with the smaller gears 9,10 also arranged within said housing upon rotary shafts 11, 12 respectively. The rotary shaft 11 is projected through and above the gear 9 and is provided with a plurality of disks 15 fast thereto and formed with irregularly spaced peripheral teeth 16 adapted for engagement with the musical reeds '17 arranged in the plane of rotation of theseveral disks 15 and supported by the block 18 which is carried 4 by one wall of the housing.
The rotary shaft 12 is projected through the gear 10 and through the platform 1 and carries the rotary disk 19 that is provided with a plurality of vertically movable rods 20 provided with stOp collars 21 and above the same with the movably supported figures 22 which figures, due to the movement of the disk 19 and rods 20, may move in a life like manner. The rods 20 are capable of a rotary movement and a'vertical movement with relation to the disk 19 and, below the collars 21, they project through the said disk for engagement with the ridges 23 formed upon the platform 4. These ridges having rounded faces will cause a vertical movement of the rods 20 when they contact with them. A figure piano 24 and a figure player 25 are arranged upon the platform '3. Rotation of the shaft 11 will cause the disks 15 to produce a series of notes or tones upon the said reeds 17 which tones will seem to be produced by the piano player 25 upon his instrument 24. I
What 'is claimed is 1. In a toy comprising a casing formed with a platform, a series of gear-connected driven rotary shafts, one of said shafts being projected through the said platform, a disk fast to the last named shaft and spaced above the said latform, rods movably carried by said dlsk, the lower ends of said rods being rojected below said disk, stop collars carried by said rods, figures movably carried by, said rods above said stop collars, and means arranged in the pathof movement of said rods, upon said platform, for engagement therewith to cause movement thereof with relation to said disk.
2. In a toy comprising a casing formed with a platform, gear-connected driven rotary shafts, one of said shafts being projected through the said latform, a disk fast to the last named saft and spaced away from the said platform, movable rods carried by said disk, the lower ends of said rods being projected below said disk, stop collars carried by said rods, figures movably carried bysaid rods above said step collars, and ridges arranged in the path of movement of said rods, upon said platform,
for en a ement therewith to cause moveereof with relation to said disk;
that I claim the foregoing ment t In testlmon as my own I 1 ave hereto'aflixed' mysignature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. I i j MR. MATT PELTO.
