To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MCBRIDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caldwell, in the county of Noble and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Playing-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved game apparatus comprising a pack of cards for playing a game which I call the game of oil fields, the object of the invention being to provide a pack of playing cards comprising suits, each card of each suit bearing a sand characteristic designation as oil, water, dry, gas or the like and also bearing a number and the name of a sand, said names and numbers indicating the relative depths of the sands, the said cards being educational as to the characteristics of the principal oil fields in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
In the accompanying drawings Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 are plans of one of each of the various suit cards constituting my improved game apparatus or pack of playing cards.
In accordance with my invention I provide a ack of fifty-two cards comprising four sults of thirteen cards each. Each card has a suit designation a, the cards of one suit being designated oil, those of another being designated water, those of the third Each card also has a number 6 the cards of each suit being respectively numbered from 1 to 13. Each card also has the name of an 011 sand such as 1st Cow Run, Dunkard, Mitchell, 211d Cow Run, Maxton, Big Lime, Keener, Big Injun, Squaw, Berea, Gordon, Clinton, and Trenton, the said names corresponding with the numbers as indicating the relative depths of the sands, Mitchell, for instance being the shallowest and Trenton for instance, being the deepest.
Various games can be played by two or more parties, with my improved playing cards and the use of the same is educational and promotes the acquisition or knowledge as to the characteristics and relative depths of the various important oil sands.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A pack of game playing cards comprising suits, each card of each suit bearlng a sand characteristic designation as water, oil, dry, gas or the like, and also bearing a number, and the name of a sand, said names and numbers indicating the relative depths of the sands and said numbers indicating the relative game values of the cards.
In testimony whereof I ailiX my signature.
WILLIAM S. MCBRIDE.
