Description

UNITED STATES DORGAS G. JUNETT, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO: HERSELF AND HENRY Gr. SWART, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE COVERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,244, dated May 28, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Sewing-Machine Covering, invented by Mrs. DORGAS O. J UNETT, of Troy,
in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved sewingmachine cover. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section. Fig. 3 is a back view, partly in section, of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
This invention relates to a new oil-protecting cover for the Wheeler & Wilson sewing-machine; and has for its object so to make said cover that it will be self-sustaining 7 and not require any fastenings to keep it in place.
The invention consists in providing the covering-plate with pendent supporting legs, which are so spaced that they will embrace the lower plate of the machine, and thereby properly place the cover. The cover is also provided with a kind of projecting spout for a threadguide.
A in the drawing represents my improved cover. It is made S-shaped, in cross-section, its front edge a to bear against the back edge I) of the sewing-machine top plate B. The
back part of the cover is raised and arched to -fit over the working rock-shaft (J of the machine. At'the under side of the cover are projecting legs at d, which support it on the table, on which the machine is secured. These legs have inwardly-bent lower parts 6 e, which are intended to fit against the lower plate of the machine. A ledge, f, at the side of the arched upper part of the cover'supports it on an end pin, g. By means of these supports the cover is made selfsustaining, and will, when applied, at once fit its proper place. A spout or nozzle, h, projects forward from the upper part of the cover at the right hand side to guide the thread and prevent it from falling against the oiled part of the shaft.
The cover will constitute a backward extension of the sewing-machine top plate 13, and also a shield to protect the fabrics being sewed from becoming soiled by contact with the oiled machinery.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The sewing-machine cover A, provided with the supporting legs 01, and with the spout or thread-guide h, as set forth.
- DOBOAS C.JUNETT.
Witnesses WM. DONOHUE, WM. HooLEY.
