This invention has for .its object the productionof a novel and attractive displaying easel, of the folding type, which is intended to be used more particularly for advertising purposes and can be made up from but two individual parts disengagingly interlocked and coupled together to forma unit, without incorporating in the design' thereof the use of glued joints, ordinarily' depended upon in other makes of easels of this( type. The use of glued joints in easel work has always been objectionable, because of the complications arising therefrom and the consequent increase in the cost of manufacture, as well as on account of diminishing the degree of foldability ofthe same, and negativing the extent and possibility of applying printed or painted matter on `the expose surfaces thereof for advertising purposes, before the cutting operation; since it is a known fact that the gluing process interferes with whatever printed or painted matter appears thereon, and often results in spoiling the same; while to otherwise print on the same, by machine, after the gluing process has-taken place (either before or after the folding and setting up of the easel) has been proven to be absolutely impracticable lfor reasons which must appear obvious to persons familiar with the art of making easels.

To provide a simple and inexpensive displaying easel which may be used especially for advertising purposes, and in which the articles advertised may be displayed to advantage and surrounded with attractive and suitable advertising or descriptive matter which may be printed, embossed, or painted and yet will permit the same to be foldable and readily set up, is the purpose of my invention.

The numeral 1 represents a iiat sheet of card-board, fiber, metal, or other suitable material, from which the standard-member 2 and the container-member 3, which make up the easel, are cut; the standard-member 2 being designed with the vdisplaced-opening 4, which is preferably provided with the vertical retaining-tabs 5 and the containerlocking-slots 6.l 7 represents the containerbottom-Hap 'which ispreferably provided with the supporting-tabs 8 and is creased at 9 and made integral with the standardmem 1.00. on the ends of the easel,l standards are madelnte! p width equal to the depth of the containerbottom 7, and are made integral with the container-back 18 and creased at. 21, and are provided with the lower and upper locking-tongues 22 which t within the lockingslots 6 provided therefor in the easel-standard-member 2 to couple and secure said container-member 3 with said standard-member 2. 23 represents expansion-slots which are provided in the container-sides 20 for permitting the proper interlocking of the locking-tongues 22 with the slots 6 provided in the easel-standard-member 2.

Having thus described the parts of my invention in detail, the manner in which the same may be constructed and'set-up,`is as follows: y

yThe development of the, standard-member 2 and the container-member 3 may be preferably laid out on the same piece of stock 1 and scored and cut out by the proper cutting devices, in a single operation, after which operation the two parts of the easel are left ready to be properly folded and coupled together,-it being here noted that the easel may be tipped and supported (when set up) in any desired angle by providing the proper angle of slant on the supporting edges 25 of the standards 10. It may be 4observedthat the easel 4may be made up of any desired contour which will tend to make the same artistic looking and attractive, and when set up in working operation will take u the least base room possible,-the easel simple packed without the use of glue, or any other such adhesives or similar substances used ordinarily for joining parts together. Also, the construction of the easel, as herein disclosed, will permit of the supporting of appreciably wares or articles therein, as for examp e, '.filled candy boxes and the like, diseing composed of two Earts which may be shipped and at and readily folded and set up.

Also, it may be observed that the stock,

from which the easels are to be cut, when made of card or liber board, or the like, may have whatever printing matter is to be applied thereto printed thereon within the borders of the easel parts before the cutting operation occurs, since neither the latter operation nor the folding and setting up operation of the easel will in any way interfere with or injure said printed matter, as would most likely 'be the'case in the event that the easel parts were to be joined together by the use of adhesives instead of the interlocking joints used in the same.

Again, it may be observed that the expansion-slots, 23 or 23iL used on the engaging sides of the container-member 3, permlt of associating and locking the latter member Breadily with the standard-member 2 of the easel, and exert 'every tendency to keep the two locked in working relationship with each other through the expansion feature provided thereby, which acts upon the locking-tongues 22 and forces themv into,

While the preferred embodiments of my invention have been described in detail, it will be understood that I do not Wish to be limited tothe particular construction set forth, since various changes in the form, material, proportlons, and arrangement of *parts and in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the` spirit and scope of the invention,.or de# stroylng any of the advantages contained in the same, heretofore described and deined in the subjoined claim.

What I claim is:

An article of manufacture, consisting of a front panel-member, provided with a display opening having retaining-tabs and 1ockin, ,'slots,` side supporting brackets integral with `said panel member and foldable therewith, and provided with lockingslots; a foldable brace member integral with said panel-member and foldabletherewith at the bottom thereof, and provided with locking-tongues adapted to engage withv the locking-slots in said side supporting brackets; a container-Hap provided with supporting-tabs, a container member provided with supporting-,slots adapted to receive'said supporting-tabs of said containeriap, side members made integral with said -container-member and foldable therewith,

and provided with'locking-tongues and expansion-slotsadapted to engage said contailler-member withsaid panel-member,

substantially as shown.
