Application led October 12, 1917. Serial No. 196,230.
To all lwhom t may cof/106ml: A
Beit known that l, .Licor GAinznrr KEMP, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Stillwater, in the county of Payne and State y of Oklahoma, have invented new@ and useful improvements in Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a check and check book and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a Check and check book especially adapted for what is generally known as ()dd-change This book is to be used by banks with saving and checking desaving habit and cause very large increase in the business of savings department.
In the accompanying drawing:-
The figure is a plan view of the check and stub.
Thev check and stub hereinafter described may be bound together in the form of leaves of a check book, and the check indicated at l is provided with the name of a bank indicated at 2 and the location of the bank shown at 3 and a space 4- for the entry of a date. The check also bears a space 5 in which the name of a payee may be entered, a space partments and may be used by banks desiring to use the system for the convenience of their customers by carrying a special oddchange account instead of the odd-change savings account.,
Briefly the check may be used as follows:-
A check is drawn on the checking account to! be in full number of dollars, that is no cents, while the check made payable to John Doe, is to be whatever amount required, for example, two hundred dollars and seventeen cents. A space is provided upon the check for writing this amount in script and in numbers while a space is provided for writing in script and numbers the next higher whole number of dollars. That is to saytwo hundred and one dollars, which is the maximum amount and in excess of the exact amount called for by the check. When presented for payment at the bank, the check is canceled and two hundred and one dollars deducted from the check account while eighty-three cents is deposited in the savings account orin the odd-change account,1 rl`he advantages gained by this form of check and check book are that it decreases the possibility of error in keeping the checking account and of the check being raised. The customer is not required to consider the cents in addition and subtraction as this is done by the experts at the bank. rllhe customer need not forward the balance since the stub of the preceding check can be slipped upward or turned until the balance is in position on the next stub. The stub is provided with spaces to keep the odd change or savings account and check account. This form of check book and system will encourage the 5 in which the exact amount payable by the check may be entered in script, also a space G in 'which the amount may be entered in script, the said amount being a maximum amount of whole dollars and in excess of the exact amount called for by the check. The difference between the maximum amount stated and the exact amount is transferred by the bank oticial fromthe depositors checking account to his savings account., The check also bears a space 7 in which the name of the payor may be entered. The check l also bears a space 8 in which may be entered in iigures the maximum amount in whole dollarsv which amount is in excess of the exact amount called for by the check. Immediately below the space 8 the check l is provided with a space 9 in which may be entered in figures the exact amount called for by the check. immediately below the space 9 the check is provided with a space '1G in which may be entered in figures the difference between the maximum excessive amount and the exact amount called for by the check.
'A stub 1l is det-achably connected with the check 1 and has spaces in which may be entered the date, the name of the payee, the purpose for which the amount is paid and the exact amount of the check. The stub also bears a column l2 which is indicated as a savings column and a column 13 iinancial institution thereon and provided with spaces for the entry of the names of a payor and payee, a maximum payable amount specified in script thereon, an exact payable amount specified in script thereon,
maximum column spaces thereon, the amount entered in figures at the tops of said spaces, the exact amount entered in figures in said column spaces below the first mentioned figures, and the difference between 10 JACOB GARRETT KEMP.
