MOLD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALLIE S. CAMPBELL,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New London, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds, of whlch the following is a specification.
ThlS invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in molds of that type that are'especially designed to be used 1n casting Iron, or other metallic piping;
and'as its principal object, it contemplates and durable and highly practical from both the standpointof the-manufacturer and the standpoint of the user; and which, it is believed, may be manufactured at a compara tively low cost. Y 1
These objects are accomplishedby such means as'are shown in their preferred form in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more specifically pointed out in the' appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a view in end elevation showing my invention as in its preferred embodiment;
Fig. 2 is a view in cross section showing more clearly the method of mounting the 'movablemold sections upon the base of the device;

Inlreducing my invention to practice, I first provide a base 10 that may be con structed of any desirable material, the same carrying a detachable bottom plate 11 and being hollow throughout the greater portion of its extent to orm a compartment12. with a longitudinally arranged mold section 14 of the concavo-convex type which is to be of suitable configuration, in accordance with the type of pipe section to be molded, and which forms an adjacent cavity 15 communicating with the compartment 12 of the base.
Upon the plate 13 of the base and preferably about the longitudinal edges thereof, I arrange spaced eye bearings 16 and 17 respectively, the alined bearings 16 being designed to receive a carrying rod or pintle 18 (see Fig 2), whilethe bearings 17 are employed to cooperate with suitable latch mechanism to be arranged on the movable mold member.
a A body 19 is arranged to be movable .lower wall 21 of the member 19 is provided with a concavo-convex mold section 22 that is designed to lie in spaced relation to the mold section 14 when in a final position and which may have its under face formed of any desired configuration in consistence with the type of pipe being cast. In the present embodiment, I have shown'the under face of the mold section 22 provided with a series of cross zig-zag grooves or cut out 23, whereby like offsets will be formed on the respective pipe sections, as is obvious. The under face of the bottom plate 21 of the member 19 is further cut away at certain points as shown at 21 and further provided with receiving openings 25 for reception of studs 26 on the top plate 13 of the base member whereby apertured flanges will beformed on the respective pipe section that is being cast. construction is believed to be old in the art and it is to be understood that I do not claim the same in connection with my present invention.
The member 19 is further provided with spaced portions 27 that are in turn prosection 22. In the present embodiment, the

During the formation oflthe member 19, in the above stated'manner, a longitudinally extending cavity or compartment 36 is formed therein which extends about the upper face of the mold section 22,, about the portions 23 and beyondthe ends of the respective mold section, as clearly shown in Fig.
A flexible tube 37 may now be arranged to establish communication between the compartment 12' of the base member and the compartment'36 of the member 19, such. as shown in Fig. 3, the same having its ends passed through suitable apertures 38 in the members, while an inlet pipe 39 may be con nected with the base member to supply the cooling medium to the compartment 12 and a pipe 40 associated with the. member 19 whereby the waterjor other cooling medium may findegress from the compartment 36. p
In other words, as soon as the member 19' is moved into its final position upon the base 10 suchas shown in Fig. 2, the latch members 41 thereof may be engaged with the. bearings 17 of the base member, whereby it will be held in a secure position. Water or other cooling medium may then be introduced into the compartment 12 and the cavity 15 of the base member by way of the pipe 39, after which it will travel through the pipe 37 to the cavity or compartment 36 of the member 19 and circulate about the upper wall of the moldsection 22.
i From the compartment 36, the water or other cooling medium will pass'outwardl-y enses through the outlet pipe 40. The-,molten medium. Consequently the casting of the. pipe sections is greatly expedited. Upon introduction into the compartment 12, the
water or other cooling medium will pass I directly onto the-lower base of the mold member '14 thereby keeping this mold member cool-at all times -During its passage through the compartment 12, it will be brought in contact with the mold member 14 thereby serving to cool'this member as well as the base. Itshould be noted that the cooling. medium passes about the ends of the mold member 22 so as to cool the same sufficiently at these points.
. From the foregoing, it is believed that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily understood and, therefore, further detail description is deemed unnecessary.
In reducing my invention to practice, I find that the form referred to herein as the most practical and preferred embodiment is the most elii'cient, but realizing that certain conditions will necessari currence with the adoption 0 my device, l: desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in the details of construction and in the proportion of parts may be resorted to when required without sacrificing any of the advantages. of my invention as defined in the ap ended claim.
