To all whom it may concern 1 Be it known that 1, AUGUST .W. WVIEGAND, a citizen of the United 'States, residing at Sedalia, of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Safety Appliance for Locomotives, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a safety appliance for locomotives wherein agravity actuated valve operates to discharge steam in case of accident. Y
The main object of the invention is to provide a safety appliance which will allow the steam to escape rapidly from the boiler :when the locomotive upsets.
Another ob ect is to produce a novel construction for a steam dome.
Another object is to provide novel means for normally closing the steam dome. 7
Another object is to provide auxiliary means whereby the engineer may release the steam when desired.
Still another object is to provide a simple and efiicient device of this character.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed,swithoutdeparting from the spirit ofthe invention.
