specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a vertegraph or machine for producing a graph of the bony structures of the body.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the position the bones of the backoccupy with respect to each other determines certain pathological conditions of the system, and physicians make use of this fact incorrecting such conditions by pressure or percussion upon the mal-alined bones.
This apparatus is intended to provide a record of the condition. of the bones of the back whereby the patient may himself observe the position of the mal-alined bones, one graph showing the adjustment in one plane while the other graph will show the lateral mal-alinements. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the apparatus may be adjustedfor persons of greater or less size as may be convenient, the tracing apparatus normally operating in a given position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tracing board forthe support of the paper upon which the tracing ismade which may beturned 90 degrees thereby producing on the same sheet of paper two tracings, one of which will show lateral mal-alinements and the other posterior or anterior malalinements of the bones.
It will of course be clear that any animal might have the position of its bones delineated with this machine, although the apparatus is more especially adapted for use with the human body, and is capable of producing a graph thereof in any position the body may assume.
Other objects of the invention'will appear as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that-there may be many modifications thereof.

The apparatus comprises a table having four legs 1, 2, 3 and 4, which legs are suitably. connected with cross pieces 5 and side pieces 6 and 7, the top 8 being placed thereon to receive the patient. The legs 1 to 4 inclusive are hollow to receive posts, 9 to 12 inclusive, of the frame which supports the tracing apparatus. Each of the posts 9 to 12 inclusive has'a link 13 at its lower end pivotally connected thereto and connected with levers 14 or 15 as the case may be, there being two of'said levers at each end of the table. Each of the levers rests upon a pin 16 carried by a bracket 17 supported by the transverse end members 5, which hold the legs together. The two levers 1 1 and 15 are pivotally connected'together at one end, and are connected with a vertically exten.d ing notched plate 18, the object being to provide means whereby the posts 9 to 12 and rectangular frame 13' carried at the top of said post may beadjusted in height, the notches in the plate 18 engaging a screw 0r bolt 19 to hold said posts and the frame connected therewith at different levels. When the frame and tracing apparatus carried thereby has been moved to the desired level, it is secured inthat position by means of the set screws 17, 18, 19 and 20. The frame at the top of the posts 9 to 12 'inelusive comprises two cross bars 13, and two longitudinal bars 20 and 21 connecting the two-bars 13. Depending from the longitudinal extending bars are two arms 23 and 24 at each side of the frame, and said arms 1 form a support for a rod 25 at each side of? the frame, which rod extends from one end to the other thereof, and which are connectedwith the end posts by means of screws 26' and 27. Each of the rods 25 is provided with a tubular slide 28, and said tubular slides are connected by means of two transversely extending rods 29 and 30'. The rod 30 is provided with a Y shaped yoke having 7 two arms 31 and 32 at the ends of which is provided, said screw enabling the arm 37 to be adjusted with respect to the yoke which supports it, said yoke having two projecting lugs 40 and 41 at its lower end for the support of the pivot pin 42 carrying the arm 37.
7 At the lower end of the yoke there is a rigid tubular arm 43, within which slides a rod 44 connected at its outer end to a tubular sleeve 45. A spring 46 surrounds the rod 44 and tends to hold the sleeve 45 upright. A rod 47 is rigidly connected with the sleeve 45 and pivotally connected at 48 with the yoke lug 41, A rod 49 is also loosely connected with the sleeve 55 and loosely connected with a ring 50 on the sleeve 35. A rod 52 7 passes loosely through the sleeve 45 and it scribed 1s as follows :Assum1ng a erson to :lie upon the-table in the position shown in has a pencil or stylus 53 at its lower end, said rod also passing through sleeves 54 and 55,- the former connected with a weight56 and'the latter at the top of a cross arm 57 carried by'the-rod'58 extending upwardly from theiweight 56. The cross arm 57 carries loosely an arm 59 which has a small weight60 at oneend thereof and which arm bears upon the top ofthe rod 52, the object being to hold the pencil 53 in contact with the paper on-the board 62. The board 62 is pivotally mounted on bolts 63 and 64 which passthrough the end posts 9. and 12, jointed links 65,66, 67 and 68 holding the board whenin the horizontal position shown in Fig. 3. The spring 36 tends to hold the yoke arms up off the body on the table 8 while a spring 69 tends to pull slides 28, to the left hand end of the machine, see Fig. 1; the

The rod 44 then has a pencil applied at its end, and as said pencil is moved along the paper fastened on the board 62 it makes a mark which corresponds to the several positions of the back bone proc- V a person in the normal standing position, i 7

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows, express reservation being made of per missible modifications.
1. An apparatus for producing graphs comprising a table, an adjustableframe sup ported thereby, a pivoted drawing board carried by said frame capable of being moved into two planes at right angles to each other, and a parallel motion apparatus carried by the frame for delineating upon the drawing board or paper thereon graphs corresponding to the shapein two planes of .an object placed upon said table.

An apparatus for producing graphs comprising a table, an adjustable frame supported thereby, a pivoted drawing board at the side of the frame capable of being moved into two positions at right angles to each other, longitudinally extending rods carried by said frame, slides on said rods, transversely extending rods connecting the slides and suitable parallel motion apparatus slidably supported upon the latter rods and adapted to produce a graph upon the drawing board or paper thereon of objects placed upon the table.
5. 6. An apparatus for producing graphs comprising a table, an adjustable frame carried thereby, a drawing board on the said frame capable of being moved to a horizontal or a vertical position, a tracer movable &
over the drawing board, a suitable parallel motion apparatus connected with said tracer for moving it, and an adjustable pointer arm carried by the parallel motion apparatus for tracing the contour of an object whereby a graph thereof is produced upon the drawing board or paper thereon.
7 An apparatus for producing graphs comprising a table, a vertically adjustable frame carried thereby, a drawing board pivotally mounted on the frame to be moved to a vertical or a horizontal position, a tracing point movable along the drawing board, a laterally and longitudinally slidable parallel motion apparatus adapted to pass over objects on the table, and connections between the latter apparatus and the tracer whereby a graph of the object on the table may be produced on the drawing board.
8. An apparatus for producing graphs comprising a table, a frame adjustable with respect to the table, a drawing board movable into a horizontal or a vertical plane, a tracer movable along the drawing board, a parallel motion apparatus connected with the tracer and having a guide for causing the tracer to move parallel tothe guide in one plane, and a spring to return the parallel motion apparatus to one end of the frame after having been moved to the other end thereof.
