JOSEPH W. SAB, OF VAN METER, PENNSYLVANIA.
CONTAINER-COVER FASTENER.
Application filed May 24, 1917. Serial No. 170,673.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrH W. SAno, a subject of the King of Hungary, resident of Van Meter, county of Westmoreland, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Con tainer-Cover Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in means for securing the covers of vessels to the body thereof, and has as its principal object the provision of means whereby the cover may be securely but removably engaged with the open, upper part of receptacles in an easy and efficient manner.
A further object is to provide such securing devices in forms which are relatively inexpensive to construct, durable in their nature, and of neat appearance.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel design, construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an ordinary form of container with the cover in position and clamped thereon by means of an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the center of the container inclicating the application of the clamping device, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the clamping device in detail. In the drawings, an ordinary bucket 10 is engaged, having cylindrical walls, finished with a head 12 at its upper edge upon which rests the flange 14 of the'cover 15, which is provided with an ordinary raising handle 16 usually in the form of a wire loop hinged at its extremities to the center of the cover, which is engaged with the upper part of the vessel by means of the downturned, flanged, annular, extending edges 17, suited to be received tightly within the walls 10 of the vessel.
The invention comprises a pair of oppositely disposed crabs consisting of hooklike elements 20 adapted to engage with the combined elements 12 and 14, holding them in close relation, the hooks being integrally engaged by connecting elements 22,
is attached, may be drawn away from the opposite crab and raised off the edge of the vessel, thereby freeing the cover therefrom.
The construction of the device will be apparent from the drawings and foregoing description, as will also the manner of its application and use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device as described, in combination, a pair of substantially similarly-constructed claws, each claw consisting of a loop portion carrying opposing spring legs, said legs diverging outwardly from the loop portion and formed with hook terminals, a clip secured by an integral eye upon the loop portion of one claw and held against displacement therefrom by the diverging legs thereof, an expansible coiled spring having its opposite ends attached to the loop portions of said claws, and a ring attached to said clip and providing a handhold, said ring adapted to slide on the legs of said claws so as to draw the legs together.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
JOSEPH W. SABO.
