LEONIDAS K. MIHELAKOS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TIE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEONIDAS K. MII-IE- LAKOS, a citizen of Greece, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wearing apparel and the invention has more especial reference to an improve tie and holder therefor.
The invention has for its principal object to provide a formed tie having a holder or attaching member detachably secured to the same in a manner to permit the ready removal of the same and the use of the attaching member upon other ties, as desired.
Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide a tie of the character mentioned, the attaching member of which will serve to prevent undue shifting or displacement of the same when once arranged on a collar.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the description of the same hereinafter contained, and wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is shown and described for the purpose of facilitating a full understanding of the same.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a disassembled perspective showing the improved tie and a fragment of the collar for use therewith,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the tie attached; portions of the collar being shown in section, and,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the tie.
Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like reference characters will designate corresponding parts in the several views, 1 represents the formed tie, the same, obviously being of the usual bow design. A transversely disposed intermediate piece 2 formed of the same material as that from which the tie 1 is formed is secured at one end to the said tie and carries a wire loop or clip 3 upon the free end of the same, whichclip is adapt- Serial No. 205,581.
ed to be engaged with the attaching means, hereinafter more fully described. As will be readily understood, the transversely disposed piece represents the usual interme diate portion commonly formed when tying ties of the bow design. I
The attaching means for the improved tie comprises a concaved strip 4 preferably formed of spring metal slotted as at 4 and having a hook member 5 arranged intermediate of the'ends of the same, the said hook member, obviously, being secured to the spring plate by soldering or other means common in the art. It will be noted, in this connection, that the hook 5 is substantially square and as a consequence, permits the clip 3 to be snugly engaged over the same when the transverse piece 2 is passed through the slot 4' of said strip 4. By so engaging the clip 3 of the transversely disposed piece 2 with the hook 5, the attaching means of the tie will be positively secured to the same and further, the arrangement of the said transverse piece, as hereinbefore stated, is such as to give a finished appearance to the tie.
The tie when arranged on a collar is prevented from V undue shifting or displacement, since, as will be understood, the book 5 is engaged over the shank of the collar button while the sides of the said hook are snugly received between the adjacent edges of the collar, which, preferably, are cutaway, as shown to advantage in Fig. 2. Hence, proper positioning of the tie during the wearing of the same will be insured at all time. It is to be understood that the 0pposite extremities of the curved strip 4 are engaged over the opposite sides of the collar on which the improved tie is arranged, thus preventing lateral displacement of the tie with relation to the same, and the breaking or wrinkling of the sides of the collar.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:-
1. A bow tie having an intermediate transverse piece secured at one end to the same, a fastener carried by the free end of said iece, and slotted attaching means remove 1y engaged with the transverse piece and adapted to .receive the fastening means tener.
2. A bow tie having an intermediate transversely disposedpiece secured at one end thereto, a clip secured to the free end of said piece, and slotted th'erethrough and adapted to receive said clip thereoven,
3. In combmation, a bow tie having an intermediatetransverse piece secured at; one end thereto, a" slotted concave -str1p f receivmg 'said transverse :PIBCG vtherethrough, a p
clip carried on the free end of the trans- Copies of this patent may'beobtained for five centsi' each,I-by
attaching means for removably receivlng the transverse plece verse piece, and a substantially square hooked portion engaged'with said strip and 7 "portion arranged thereon removably enegaged with the transverse piece and adapted to receive said fastening means over the squared hook portion.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signa- ,ture hereto.
