Be it known that I, ALFRED L. EUSTICE, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chica o, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inclosed Safety- Fuses, of which the following is a specifica tion.-
My invention relates to cartridge fuses for the protection of electrical circuits, and refers particularly, although not exclusively, toienewable cartridge fuses of the so-called ferrule type. L i
In my co-pending application, Serial No. 852,557, filed J uly 23;1914, I have described a' cartridge fuse in which the ferrules loeat'ed at the ends of the insulating casing are provided with inwardly-extending abutment flanges, which, in turn, are engaged by apertured t vashers' through whic the ends of the fusible. link extend, these ends being clamped in. osition and the washers being'forced into rm engagement with the abutmentfianges by means of plugs which screw into the ends of the ferrules.

The fuse casing 20, of fiber or other suitable insulating material, is provided near its ends with the grooves 21. Each of the ferrules applied to the ends of the casing 20 p 3 consists of three members: first, the abut;
mentthimhle 22, second, the ferrule sleeve 23, and, third, the ferrule plug 24. In as sembling the various partsof the fuse which remain permanently in position the abutment thimbles 22, in the shape in which'they are shown in Figs. 4 and 5, are slipped over the. ends of the casing 20 with which they have a tight fit. the inwardly-extending abutment flange 25 of each thimhle being brought into snug engagement with the cor-- responding end of the (using 20. From each abutment flange 25 an alinemeut tongue 9.6 (the object of which will be explained hereafter) has been upset, the alinement tongues 26 at opposite ends of the casing 20 being located diametrically opposite tocach other. threaded interior of the outer portion of said ferrule sleeve and bearing against the i bent-over end of said link, whereby the latter is securely clamped in position between fitting over said shoulder engaging the outer end of said abutment thimble, the inner edges of said abutment thim'ble and said ferrule sleeve being crimped into the groove in said easing, whereby said abutment thimble and ferrule sleeve are securely locked in position, a washer within the outer portionof said ferrule sleeve and engaging said abutment flange, said washer having an aperture therethrough, a fusible link within said casing and passing through the aperture of said washer, the end of said link being bent over the outer face of saidyasher, and a plug having engagement with the threaded interior of the outer portion of said ferrule sleeve and bearing against the bent-over end of said link, whereby the latter is securely clamped in position between the outer face of said washer and said plug and the washer is brought into firm engagement with said abutment flange.
