ANSON FIELD, OF JERICHO, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOP-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent o. 127,037, dated May 21 1872.
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANsoN FIELD, of Jericho, in the county of Chittenden and State of Vermont, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Mop-Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specitication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a represention of a top view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, andFig. 3 is a detail view of the oval loop D.
This invention has relation to mop-holders and consists in the construction and novel arrangement ot' a pair of mop-holding jaws, one of which is hinged and adjustable; also in the construction and novel arrangement of a lneta-llic loop, used in connection with said jaws, and designed to prevent the mop-cloth from being drawn out; and to so spread said cloth that the metallic or hard parts of the device may not come in contact with the licor or walls,
all as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the mop-handle, and B B the jaws. The latter are attached to opposite sides of the handle. The jaw B is rigid, while the jaw B is capable of ad j ustment, beinghinged at a., a staple bein g used as ahin gepiece. A thumbscrew, b', is used as a means of fastening the adjustable-jaw when the mopcloth C is arranged. The jaw-piece Bis conprojection, o, which passes through the handle, and, being internally threaded, receives the thumb-screw b', as
shown. The jaws extend beyond the end of the handle, and are correspondingly hanged at d. The mop-cloth is inserted between the edges of said ilanges, anarrow space being' left to receive it. D designates an oblongor oval metallicloop, having inclined ends d', producing a diierence of width between its upper and lower parallel sections, the latter being the wider. The mopcloth is folded over the upper section of said loop, and the latter placed between the jaws, the Ilauges entering the space between the upper and lower sections of loop and pressing the cloth therein, as shown. When the screw b is tightened the cloth is securely held in place. The cloth falls over the edges of the lower section of the loop, which, being wide, prevents the jaws from being brought in contact with the iioor or walls. E represents apertures, through which the water from the mop may drain and thus keep the jaws from clogging.
IVhat I claixn as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The oblong or oval loop D, in combination with the flanged jaws B B of a mop-holder, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the rigid jaw B, adjustable ja-w B', or equivalent adjusting-screw b, and iiarin g oblong loop D, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
` ANSON FIELD.
